Information systems and communications technologies have a central role in the economic and social structures of our society. They influence business processes, organizational structures, and the way people do business, work, and communicate with each other.
This course is an introduction to the fundamentals of information technologies and to the strategic opportunities and challenges presented by these technologies. The course is based on the belief that business opportunities and challenges are best addressed through a fundamental understanding of management and technological concepts. Topics covered include e-business, collaboration through IT, databases, telecommunication technologies, and IT security. While there is some introduction to technical details, the real impact of this class is gained by understanding the impact of technology on how business is done.
Objectives:
Until the end of this quarter, I expect all students to become familiar with the IT world and to learn technological advances that might help create sustained competitive advantage both in your business and personal life. In this class, you will do group projects that will help you to learn to:
Collate and communicate about emerging technologies
Work together as an effective team member
Techniques to organize and analyze business date to make informed decisions
Basic knowledge of creating a database using Microsoft Access
Techniques to evaluate design/technology utilizing an “Alternate Analysis” methodology
