When thinking about any negative aspects of this strength, some clients could see my honesty as a negative. There may be a time that calls for a bit of “sugar coding” that I may struggle with.
Strength 3- Fairness, equity, and justice.
This strength states “Treating all people fairly is one of your abiding principles. You do not let your personal feelings bias your decisions about other people. You give everyone a chance.” (Penn University, 2017).
This is a positive because clients will always receive the benefit of the doubt from me. They will all receive treatment and I will be able to do so while checking my own bias. The negative side of this in counseling, is that sometimes there needs to be differences in the way you treat clients based on their individual need or cultural differences. I could get wrapped up in the equal treatment and forget to count for those different aspects.
Strength 4- Judgment, critical thinking, and open-mindedness.
