Valedictorian Speech (Christian)
Valedictorian Speech

Ladies and gentlemen, honorable guest, family, faculty/staff and fellow graduates, Good Afternoon to you all. I feel privilege, honored and humble to be standing here today, representing the great Glorious Vision International Bible Institute of Class 2013. Our hearts are filled with gratitude that you could all be here regardless of your busy schedules, to share in our celebration.

I remember an uncomfortable premonition of fear that pervaded my senses during the first day of my nursing school orientation. I was exalted, ambitious and anxious. I was ready to soak in every word the faculty had to say, overwhelmed with joy. Suddenly here came of a professor who seemingly threatens our idealistic selves saying, “Nursing is not for the weak, it will cause you to lose part of your humanity, it will cause you to lose your contact with outside world and your common sense”. She appeared with books doubled the size of an encyclopedia; I was frozen to the spot. With God’s help and encouragement from my family/ my pastor, I recognize that nursing paved the foundation to a meaningful development that draws love when you think you have no more to give.

You see secular education assumes that human observation and interpretation are the basis of reality. Haven experiences this institute I noticed that Christian Institute assumes that since God is the creator and sovereign of all, He alone is the interpreter of all. All things serve him and are sustained by him. I will forever cherish my experience here in the Christian Leadership class. Christ himself modeled the skills of a leader, summarized in Matthew 20 the principle of service and suffering from the basis of the leader relationship with his subordinates.

These noble graduates have completed the journey they began 15 weeks ago, and we cannot express the joy, happiness and gratitude we feel to God, our teachers, families and friends. Thanks for your love and encouragement.

Belhaven's Nursing program will facilitate Christian values and a positive outlook in my life as I matriculate through the program and as I engage in my career. I will be proud to know I am serving God's people by using the knowledge I attained throughout the course of this program. If chosen as a candidate, my development and practice in the field of nursing would be powerful. I will be provided the tools to care for God's people, open a community health clinic for low income families, and nevertheless, make my mother proud as I walk in her footsteps as I purse a degree of nursing. Becoming a nurse is dear to my heart; I have cried and prayed many nights for my opportunity, but as Jeremiah 29:11 states, "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a…

Reflecting on the past two years of nursing school, my philosophy of nursing has been reshaped from when I had first started the nursing program. Though the fundamental aspect of my philosophy has not changed, my horizon has been broadened to see the beauty behind the nursing profession. Florence Nightingale once said that “Nursing is an art, and if it is to be made an art, it requires an exclusive devotion as hard a preparation, as any painter 's or sculptor 's work; for what is the having to do with dead canvas or dead marble, compared with having to do with the living body, the temple of God 's spirit? It is one of the Fine Arts” (Bolen, 2009). I had almost said the finest of Fine Arts.” Her belief in the nursing profession has been the core reason for most of my beliefs. Through the academic studies and hands on…

Nursing is a profession where people are brought together, usually at a time of vulnerability. Nurses, like the patients they care for, are constantly facing challenges, yet for nurses those challenges are often directed at their academic and skill capabilities. Due to individual and general population health needs changing, our health care system is consistently expanding, and it is necessary that nurses know more and be effectively trained to provide care in a revolutionized organization. A modest, but expanding, amount of hospitals are requiring all newly graduated nurses to have a bachelor’s degree in nursing or higher at the time of hire and indicators are that many more hospitals will require the same in years soon to come (ANA, 2013).…

I just wanted to take a minute to officially thank everyone who came out to my graduation over the weekend. When I first completed my initial degrees, I made a hard choice to not pursue medicine. I felt as if I failed myself and wasted time for a degree I would not use. I was worried my friends and family would feel the same, but it was the complete opposite. Their positive encouragement allowed me to gain confidence to go back to school for a degree I wanted. Even if some may not have been the happiest at the time, I still received support and love.…

Being a nurse meant a lot to me when I became a nurse 23 yrs. ago at the tender age of 21. It was not just a job for me but it meant caring for people in their darkest hour, comforting them when they are most vulnerable, and helping them when they needed most. Today, I feel privileged that I had opportunity that most people don’t to make a difference in people’s life from all walks of life (, 2010, p. 2). When I first became nurse, nursing as a career was not on my mind , my heart was filled with passion to help the sick , but today I see nursing as a career , a job , an opportunity , convenience , and a means to reach out and impact people’s life .…

Through a career in nursing, I can be guaranteed that the knowledge I will be obtaining will be used to enhance some one's life. Nursing gives professionals the unique privilege of caring for a community of people at their most vulnerable moments. As I make my way through nursing school I have had many eye opener moments, as well as many a-ha moments. The classroom and clinical setting has advance my perception of nursing in general. As I read and practice on the floor I imagine myself one day working on my own as a Registered Nurse giving medical attention to the ones who seek it. There are so many personal reasons that becoming a nurse has always been my dream; due to so many family members of mine being diagnosed with so many diseases that took them away from me early. As a little girl growing up, I watched my grandfather go through cancer. On so many different days he would come back home sick from radiation and chemotherapy. He would be too weak to even feed himself…

“I shall pass through life but once. Any good therefore that I can do, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it. For I shall never pass this way again” When I first entered the field of nursing my main ambition was to master the art of bed side nursing. After completing my bachelors degree in nursing I felt I had been adequately prepared to meet the challenges of hospital nursing. Naive right! My first nursing job was in a surgical intensive care step down unit at Manchester General Hospital. I worked hard, made my fair share of mistakes, and was amazed at how much I learned from my patients and my peers. I learned as much about nursing during those first few years as I learned while in school. I had no idea that I knew only…
