One major controversy in our country as well as other countries is what the preferable lifestyle diet is. Many dietary experts claims that one of the best lifestyle diets is the vegetarian diet. A vegetarian diet is defined as a person who does not eat or does not believe in the eating of animals, or in some cases, anything deriving from an animal. Usually with a person who is on a vegetarian diet, he or she will eat only foods from plants like vegetables and fruits. Research states that the reasons why vegetarianism is a superior life style choice is due to the fact that being a vegetarian allows a person to be healthy, stops pollution, saves animals, as well as saves money.
Many people in the world have a misunderstanding of a vegetarian diet and believe that their main consumption is plants. However, a vegetarian diet usually consists of many different types of eating patterns. There are four distinctive forms of vegetarianism which are vegan/total vegetarian, lactovegetarian, ovo-lactovegetarian, and semi-vegetarian. With a vegan/total vegetarian diet a person consumes food that is or is made by plants like fruits, vegetables, legumes, grains, seeds and nuts. Even though one of the main reasons for having pollution in our atmosphere is carbon dioxide emissions, studies have shown that there are many other culprits. One of these many culprits is the production of meats as well as maintaining the livestock itself. Scientists found out recently that “raising animals for food generates more greenhouse gases than all the cars and trucks in the world combined” (Top 10 Reasons Why It's Green to Go Veggie). Livestock also contributes to global climate change due to the fact that they cause the destruction of the land and the pollution of water

    A very common misconception is the mislabeling and generalization of those considering themselves to be vegetarians. Vegetarian is used to describe people who exclude meat, poultry, fish, or any other animal derived food from their diet. However, within the generalized term "vegetarian" come numerous different forms of the lifestyle, each classified based on the degree to which animal products are excluded from their diet and the reasoning such as ethical, religious, health. The different groups of vegetarianism fall along an imaginary spectrum, with semi-vegetarians, who are often excluded entirely due to behaviors conflicting with the practice, on one end of the spectrum and at the opposite end are vegans, the strictest of vegetarianism. The semi vegetarians, or those who exclude animal products from their lifestyle to some degree, are often banished by true vegetarians. This is partially due to the fact that semi vegetarians consume some sort of animal products, thereby contradicting the definition of the term. However, semi vegetarians' motivations are highly different. Some are obligated by religious beliefs to refrain from eating particular types of meats. Others follow the lifestyle for health concerns; say perhaps a person chooses to not eat red-meat because of cholesterol problems. Another possible motivation would be pure personal preference.
