Vengeance In The Film 'V For Vendetta'
‘V’ For Vendetta

Written by the Wachowskis -- Andy and his brother, Larry and directed by first-timer James McTeigue, the movie (Travers), ‘V’ for Vendetta expresses an individuals’ vengeance over the government who destroyed his life. Escaping from the torture camp, where he was held, ‘V’, the main character of the movie, seeks to take revenge on the government who changed his life forever. The movie shows the character ‘V’ turning into a mutant with special powers and skills due to a reaction caused by the blast on the experimental camp where he was a prisoner. The title of the movie itself is self explanatory as a person is looking for vengeance, and thereafter goes by the codename- ‘V’. Unlike most other Hollywood

Portman to my belief is an actress of greater potentiality than what she makes out in this movie. The role does not quite suite her and there was no point of her character being involved in V’s life. She does not play any part until the second half of the movie, and she has little to do whatsoever to influence V’s character. Even after she came to know about the truth that V was the one who captured her, tortured her just to teach a lesson, she accepts it and forgives V for what he made her go through. That to me looked a little bizarre as no one would forgive a person who does that to him or her. And if V cannot forgive the government and does all the killings just to prove his point, how can you expect a young girl to forgive a stranger after going through all that? However, there are some lessons that you can learn in the movie. The statement where V says, “people should not be afraid of the government but government should be afraid of the people,” is one of the most influencing statements I have heard in any movies. In the movie, United Kingdom is ruled by fascism. Citizens were living under terror and fear. This statement by ‘V’ suits the best in the movie as he is trying to get everyone go against the government to protect their own …show more content…
Almost at the start of the movie, when Portman-Evey is rescued by V, Evey asks V who he was. V then replies by saying, “You ask a masked man, who he is?” Not always do we clarify such little details but this movie shows how such small matters can be humorous. For example, the same question was asked by Mary Jane in spider-man but we thought it was romantic in that movie. Here, the same question is turned into a comical statement. From an audience standpoint, I think the movie was directed very well but the storyline was not that interesting. The movie is so unclear about V’s character, whether he did the right thing or the wrong. My assumptions were that V did the right thing in a wrong fashion. The part where he had to escape from the boardroom, he put similar masks in all innocent people there. This shows that he was trying to save his life putting innocent people’s lives at risk. Also, the part where he tortures Evey, just to prove to her how he felt when he had gone through the same thing was immoral. How could anyone wish for others to go through the negative things in life that they have gone through? But V does that in this movie. In contrast, he also looked to seek for vengeance just with the negative characters of the society such as the Chancellor who was fascist dictator, the Bishop who seduced young girls and the news anchor who provided false information to build his

He is extremely intelligent, and uses a high class of vocabulary. He was a victim of illegal genetic testing by the government in an effort to further their knowledge about the human torture. He is to bring justice to his country and bring down the government. V murdered these individuals that did the illegal investigation as a payback for the suffering they have caused him and hundreds of other people. Despite V acting as a “Terrorist” he is presented in a way to the audience so that they converge with him and support him because of his backstory. Opposing to this, the government becomes the “evil” antagonists in this film. They are the ones killing innocent people and then they cover it all up in the media. After meeting Evey, develops feelings for her and starts caring more for her than himself. Evey beings out a sentimental side of V but he will still bring justice and fight against the government. Throughout the film V protects Evey from the society and the corruption. He must protect her from the corrupt society as she is in danger from being tortured by. So he is now a different individual than from the start of the film, thanks to Evey he now has a reason, to kill in Evey’s defence. As i mentioned before he captivated Evey and torched, this was the most terrible thing he has done in his mind. He did this for Evey, to make her stop feeling pain. Under that period of time Evey was alway’s asked to telson him but she never did, so he fully trussed her. On 5th November he showed her his plan, how he would blow up the Parliament. One of the main characters in “V for Vendetta” is V. He is a mysterious, vigilante, freedom fighter, and a terrorist who is easily recognized by his Guy Fawkes mask, long hair, and dark clothing. He is a person permeated by an idea that the country they are living in is sick and that it is his duty to save the country and fulfill the idea. He was permeated by this idea after his experience at Larkhill where he underwent medical testing and saw that his country was up to. The costume V is wearing is mainly black and could possibly symbolize his dark site because V is no ordinary hero and the dark outfit underlines these two sites of him. Furthermore, V also wears a bright and white mask, which could symbolize that he also has some good in him. Additionally, the mask V is wearing is a Guy Fawkes mask, which underlines the idea he is permeated by. The mask shows us that he has the same idea as Guy Fawkes, which is to take the government down.…

I really liked the movie. It kept me in suspense and wondering what would happen next. It also made me question if in the future genetic testing would be a good thing to do. A lot of people could be convicted and condemned for crimes they did not commit, just like Vincent almost was. Overall, I enjoyed the movie and would recommend it to others. It also taught that it does not matter if you have a disability or disorder you can still accomplish your goals. Vincent may have been susceptible to heart disorder, but that did not refrain him from going to…

Although composed centuries apart, both Shakespeare’s Macbeth and Ridley Scott’s Gladiator explore the similar idea of ambition, through their villainous characters Macbeth and Commodus. Macbeth composed in 1606 for King James delineates a noble soldier’s character transformation from an ambitious individual to corrupted tyrant as supernatural Witches and Lady Macbeth ignite his desire for power. Similarly, Gladiator’s vicious antagonist is a malevolent personage, whose desire to be loved transforms into corrupted ambition. These similar ideas of ambition are presented in very different ways, one through the medium of drama while the other through film. Despite the differences, the texts establish, through literary and film techniques that ambition, without a moral framework will lead to destruction and downfall.…

The foundation of both 1984 and V for Vendetta lies on the act of rebellion. Rebellion is defined as an act of violent or open resistance to an established government of ruler. V and Winston are quite dissimilar when it comes to how exactly they want to rebel, but their end goal is the same: to overthrow their totalitarian governments and make a change to society. Though their intentions and actions may have been impure, both men wanted to better the lives of the citizens and make a drastic change in the way their governments controlled society.…

The letter “V” is the most obvious symbol in the movie V for Vendetta, but at the same time there are many uses of the letter “V” that are hard to see and must be watched for carefully. At the start of the film when Evey is getting harassed in the streets and V comes to the rescue, she insists on knowing who he is and how to address him. Once she asked him several times for his name he preceded with a 48-word monologue with every single word in that monologue beginning with the letter “V” (“V for Vendetta (film)”). This monologue emphasizes his identity and how the letter “V” represents him as well. Not only does the letter “V” come through as a prevalent symbol, the letter “V” represents the number five which is much more difficult of a symbol to find unless looking carefully. Evey; the main femal character, has symbolism in her name that is often…

“Symbols are given power by people. A symbol, in and of itself is powerless, but with enough people behind it, blowing up a building can change the world” (V, 2006). The movie V for Vendetta is set in present day London. Although the events which take place in the movie have no historical context, they are still relatable to modern day issues regarding government. The movie presents one of the main characters Evey, as a common person who is afraid and can’t act on her own decisions, which makes the movie relatable to the audience today. There are a lot of symbols used to portray the various themes of the movie. The movie had a lot of good things but the end did not seem to work. I think the problem was in Tea Leoni’s character. The performance was good but the problem was in the writing or maybe the editing of the film. It needed a few short scenes centered on her character. The way he has it setup, it seems to be almost a caricature; not a real person. All her scenes have her in a frenzy with very…
