Written by the Wachowskis -- Andy and his brother, Larry and directed by first-timer James McTeigue, the movie (Travers), ‘V’ for Vendetta expresses an individuals’ vengeance over the government who destroyed his life. Escaping from the torture camp, where he was held, ‘V’, the main character of the movie, seeks to take revenge on the government who changed his life forever. The movie shows the character ‘V’ turning into a mutant with special powers and skills due to a reaction caused by the blast on the experimental camp where he was a prisoner. The title of the movie itself is self explanatory as a person is looking for vengeance, and thereafter goes by the codename- ‘V’. Unlike most other Hollywood …show more content…
Portman to my belief is an actress of greater potentiality than what she makes out in this movie. The role does not quite suite her and there was no point of her character being involved in V’s life. She does not play any part until the second half of the movie, and she has little to do whatsoever to influence V’s character. Even after she came to know about the truth that V was the one who captured her, tortured her just to teach a lesson, she accepts it and forgives V for what he made her go through. That to me looked a little bizarre as no one would forgive a person who does that to him or her. And if V cannot forgive the government and does all the killings just to prove his point, how can you expect a young girl to forgive a stranger after going through all that? However, there are some lessons that you can learn in the movie. The statement where V says, “people should not be afraid of the government but government should be afraid of the people,” is one of the most influencing statements I have heard in any movies. In the movie, United Kingdom is ruled by fascism. Citizens were living under terror and fear. This statement by ‘V’ suits the best in the movie as he is trying to get everyone go against the government to protect their own …show more content…
Almost at the start of the movie, when Portman-Evey is rescued by V, Evey asks V who he was. V then replies by saying, “You ask a masked man, who he is?” Not always do we clarify such little details but this movie shows how such small matters can be humorous. For example, the same question was asked by Mary Jane in spider-man but we thought it was romantic in that movie. Here, the same question is turned into a comical statement. From an audience standpoint, I think the movie was directed very well but the storyline was not that interesting. The movie is so unclear about V’s character, whether he did the right thing or the wrong. My assumptions were that V did the right thing in a wrong fashion. The part where he had to escape from the boardroom, he put similar masks in all innocent people there. This shows that he was trying to save his life putting innocent people’s lives at risk. Also, the part where he tortures Evey, just to prove to her how he felt when he had gone through the same thing was immoral. How could anyone wish for others to go through the negative things in life that they have gone through? But V does that in this movie. In contrast, he also looked to seek for vengeance just with the negative characters of the society such as the Chancellor who was fascist dictator, the Bishop who seduced young girls and the news anchor who provided false information to build his
