Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to describe Verizon Wireless Human Resource Department roles and responsibilities. This paper will explain how Verizon 's Human Resources Department must constantly change to adapt new business strategies in specific areas like globalization, diversity and ethics to facilitate a successful business environment.

Verizon Wireless operates as a very traditional and conservative company where extremely high ethical standards are enforced and expected. High expectations from upper management, to the mailroom, are "the standard" at Verizon Wireless. Ethical behavior can be difficult to distinguish from un-ethical behavior and human resource departments must be careful to examine all cases carefully. The importance of recognizing ethical behavior was recently quoted in an article by Jeffery Ewing (2002), stating: "As part of the soon-to-be published study, HR professionals were asked to distinguish between situations involving differences in approach from those that involved violations of professional standards or ethics from those that were clear legal violations." This would allow the representatives to spend more time learning the business and ways to improve during business changes. Verizon Wireless Human Resource Manager K. M. Bremer (personal communication, March 8, 2005) stated in a telephone interview that: "We must understand the business functions in order to meet our goals and to create a partnership between employees and management." By outsourcing benefits, payroll, and routine administrative tasks, human resource departments can increase efficiency and create a better work environment.
The human resource department at Verizon is operated as a separate and neutral department of the company. Verizon Wireless Director of Human Resources reports directly to the CEO to eliminate any illusion of preferential treatment to management or employees. The human resource department is primarily responsible for proper representation of the rights of the employee and to help enforce the policies of the company. Any other reporting structure could cause political or professional biases that would interfere with the operation of this impartial business
