Leslie was the son of Russian immigrants who worked hard owning and operating a small store called “Leslie’s”. After graduating from Ohio State University (OSU) and serving in the Air National Guard, he worked in his parent’s business, learning everything he could about running a business. In 1963, Leslie founded L Brands, owning a store called “The Limited” located in Kingsdale Shopping Center in Ohio. After buying Victoria’s Secret in 1982, and founding several other companies including: Bath and Body Works, White Barn Candle Co., La Senza, and Henri Bendel, Leslie became a dominant United States Retailer with extremely powerful brands (About Us). I believe Leslie became extremely successful due to his hard working parents teaching him the in’s and out’s of successfully owning a business. Leslie is highly committed to making a difference in his community by donating to local charities and other local causes. In 2010, Leslie and his family in conjunction with L Brands foundation, made a significant 100 million commitment to OSU to benefit the OSU medical center, which was renamed “The Wexner Medical Center” in February 2012 (About Us). Victoria’s Secret is known for their excessive advertising, and was one of the companies targeted in their campaign. After two years of campaigning, Forest Ethics had finally succeeded. In 2006, Victoria’s Secret agreed to increase the recycled content in its paper, to give preference to FSC certified paper, and to not use paper from endangered forests (The Issue). Since then, Victoria’s Secret has introduced new programs to reduce the use of energy and reducing or reusing materials whenever they can. Victoria’s Secret is dedicated to recycling by packaging items more efficiently, eliminating PVC containers, and pallet recycling. Victoria’s Secret is also devoted to reducing the waste of energy and climate. Some efforts they are making towards the reduction of energy and climate were by adjusting the temperature set points during the day and more so at night to reduce air-conditioning use, potentially saving energy and money. They also replaced 42,000 higher wattage light bulbs in over 900 stores, with lower wattage and higher efficiency to conserve the use of energy.
