Video Analysis: Ted Talk
I never knew what Ted Talk was before this class. I was amazed of how many short but very power presentations they have. Almost all of their speakers are well knowledgeable about the topics they presenting, and they all have personal experiences related to their topics. All the presenters used different techniques to keep their audience engaged in their topics. Some were asking their audience questions. Others were showing images to keep their full attention. It is very hard to keep someone’s full attention for few minutes; however, most of the presenters were able to keep everyone’s attention for the whole entire presentation. Even myself I replayed all of the four videos that I watched because it kept me interested. I watched more videos than I supposed watch but the top four that I was most engaged with were: what really happens when you mix medications by Russ Altman, 10 ways to have a better conversation by Celeste Headlee,

What really happens when you mix medication by Russ Altman The presenter of this ted talk video is a professor of bioengineering, genetics, and medicine (and computer science, by courtesy). He is also post chairman of bioengineering department at Stanford University. The presentation was about

The presenter was very energetic. He continuously kept the audience laughing. To grab the audience attention he began asking the audience a question. This ted talk video was bout the story of Natalia Rybczyriski. She’s paleobiologist, which means she specializes in digging up really old dead objects or stuff and she usually digs the stuff up way above the Arctic circle in the remote Canadian Tundra. He opened his presentation by speaking about camels that camels are so will adapted to the desert that it’s hard for anyone to imagine them living anywhere else than he said what if those big humps, feet, and eyes were evolved in different climate and a different

After a short and brief anchor introduction WGN’s, Erik Runge, tells his story on the upcoming bad allergy season through a donut live shot. In his introduction live shot, Runge stumbles a bit, but then quickly recovers from it by restating the word and pretending like it never happened. Runge’s b-roll video that was shot in the same perimeter just through different angles around the same lake area in Lincoln Park was lacking and did not compliment the story well at all. Some close up b-roll on growing plants was more effective than the other videos because it represented pollen, a main cause of allergies. Runge also only followed around one allergy victim who did not have many powerful things to say beyond the obvious negative comments on…

The speaker I selected was Professor Randy Pausch. I have read the book, “The Last Lecture” and was very moved by it. In the introduction he absolutely grabbed my attention. He was very humorous and engaging. Even using humor to discuss “the elephant in the room” and to show everyone how he was in good health. He makes you want to listen in the way he opened his “speech”. His nonverbal communication is excellent. He focuses on the audience (eye contact) through the entire speech. He walks around and seems open instead of standing in one place. He moves his hands while talking. Going back to the introduction, he gets down on the floor and does push-ups to prove his health at this point. He uses hand gestures that are appropriate for what he is…

When building many of the castles in the 1300-1400’s the main purpose was to keep the enemies out and of course for conquest. In the video I watched, the Forbidden Knowledge video, they called out some very key point of why and how these fortresses and castles where erected and defended. Not only where there kings of the lands, but then each of those lands were divided up to noble kin and lords. They were always trying to better there futures with more land, even if that included killing your own cousin to get his piece of land. One great example of an intuitive fortress, Caesar had made a donut shaped fortress at one point around a small town; he shut out and was starving the people in the town and then also keeping out the men that were…

After seeing the video I believe that one of the solutions sort of works, Dualism simply because I went to a catholic school and raised to be religious. I was always taught believe that if someone or myself does something “evil” that we let the devil affect our judgment or listen to the devil to do something wrong such as fight with siblings, steal or cheating. Although, some believe there are issues with this solution because if god has great power, knowledge and all good intentions, then why doesn’t he stop all evil/ devil. I think god uses evil as a scare tactic, represented as a figure to attempt keep individuals from doing something evil and staying on the right and good path that God would want us to follow. Overall keeping individuals…

As this is one of my favorite classes, I can remember several lessons that were entertaining this past year. One of the first materials that come to mind is when we did the presentations about whatever we wanted. A recent topic, I enjoyed was reading The Crucible as a class. I also recall finding Edgar Allen Poe's "The Murders in the Rue Morgue" amusing but slightly disturbing. The element I enjoy most about PowerePoints is researching the information. Although presenting them is something I am not inclined to doing, being allowed to select the subject of the PowerPoint was especially pleasing to me. Reading The Crucible as a class was surprisingly highly entertaining to me. I considered the various people’s perspectives, reading the lines…

First off, I can not be the only one who fell in love with Romon as soon as he came on screen. To see that little boy, how happy he is and motivated, I bet he is an inspiration to all those that meet him. Anyways, the video starts with Romon showing us how a child with severe disabilities can use technology to effect the world they live in and give them a real sense of importance. Romon uses a device called a Dynavox and it allows him through the assistance of a computer to be able to talk and communicate his feelings. As stated in the video, "using technology, Roman can now take on many more challenges". Since this is the area of teaching I plan on going into, If I have a child like Romon in my classroom, I will do everything in my power…

One of my favorite activities that we did in class was the orange activity. It was really interesting because everyone brings an orange and what we did was mixed it all up. Then we had to write down details of our orange and then find it. It showed that there could be hundreds of oranges, which most may have similar shape, size, and color, but somehow they are all different. This activity proved that some people may have the same features, but everyone is different. Inside and out people have their own story and life experience. Another example of what changed my attitude would be the presentation by Jesse Billauer. His story was very inspiring because although he is not able to surf on his legs he still goes into the water. That is inspiring because he did not let his accident stop him from going in the water and doing what he loves. His presentation made me appreciate life and I am thankful for everything I have. Also, I want to experience more in life and be able to look back and be able to say “ooh I did that”. Another presenter named Jeremy, who spoke in our class was a great presenter. With Jeremy he is partly blind. He cannot see the center of where ever he is looking at. There was one main thing that Jeremy said during his presentation that really caught my attention, which was when he explained that if he was offered to get his vision back he would not. He explained that he would not want to have full vision because he would not appreciate life as much as he does now. I can tell that Jeremy is a humble individual and he loves presenting. He really is making a…
