Villain Archetypes
Both Ms. Strangeworth from “The Possibility of Evil” and Captain Torres from “Lather and Nothing Else” represent the villain archetype; however, Miss Strangeworth better represents it because she enjoys the evil she causes, whereas Captain Torres does not. First of all, the roles of the characters are shown as villains throughout both of the stories. In the case of Miss Strangeworth, it is when she sends her malicious messages to the town without regard for their feelings (Jackson 5). Meanwhile, Captain Torres is revealed as the villain when the barber remembers “...the sight of the mutilated bodies kept me from noticing the man who had directed it all” (Tellez 1) about the captain. The two of them do horrible things to their respective towns; Miss Strangeworth, by sending her …show more content…
You can take my word for it” (Tellez 3). Through this quote, Captain Torres shows his understanding that what he is doing is wrong, and that it isn't easy to just take someone’s life. In the end, he just doing his job, and despite it making him a villain, by acknowledging it is not easy to commit the sins he does, it shows he is not really a terrible person, which is why he is the less accurate representation of the villain archetype. In contrast to this, Miss Strangeworth admits she likes sending the hateful messages and that she has done it for an entire year. This is important because this type of behavior is what truly makes a good villain. She likes the evil she commits and continues to do it constantly, without anyone in the town wanting her to. Her evil is self-motivated, and the fact that she is pleased with it is why she is a better portrayal of the archetype. Therefore, despite Miss Strangeworth and Captain Torres both representing the same villain archetype, Miss Strangeworth is ultimately the better depiction because she likes what she is doing and chooses to do it because she wants

In Sam Raimi's Spiderman 3, the hero archetype is demonstrated through the antagonist Peter Parker. The need of a hero shows that people in today's society are in need of saving and are not capable of protecting themselves. This in itself is something that people should be considered about. It clearly reflects that people are becoming dependent on others to save them and are not able to be independent. Not only is it an extremely selfish act of the people, but all the responsibilities are then dropped onto one person's shoulders. One person can only withstand so much responsibility before they cannot take anymore. This responsibility forces Peter to make unfair sacrifices in his life. The hero archetype also shows the generic dasmil in distress which is rather degrading for women. This archetype shows how irresponsible today's society is and how things desperately need to change.…

Flannery O’ Connor’s short story, “A Good Man is Hard to Find,” is about family, violence, and cruelty. The author uses the archetypes situational, symbolic, setting and character so that the reader can understand the short story. The situational archetype that O’ Connor uses is battle between the good and evil. She shows this in her story when the grandmother tries to convince the Misfit to pray and not do anything bad. The symbolic archetype that she uses is water vs. dessert because she describes how the sky was lonely with no clouds and that there was sun but no sun to be seen. In most cases, loneliness indicates that something bad is going to happen. The setting that she conveys here is a family road trip that ends in a tragic way. The…

Chillingworth could most likely be described as evil. In the beginning of The Scarlet Letter, Hester Prynne is described as the evil character who committed adultery on her husband, but in reality, Chillingworth created the situation by leaving his wife alone with nowhere to turn. Even though Chillingworth seems innocent and is supposedly a victim, he never cared for Hester and ignored her, yet he still expected her to love him. Instead of accepting the situation, he seeks revenge, bringing out the true evil in him. He does not accept Hester’s love for Dimmesdale and deliberately tries to stand in their way. Evil never outlives the good, just as Chilingworth doesn’t…

Both Machiavelli and Joe Starks believed any of their actions could be justified to ensure their success in ruling the town or state. Neither one of them was genuinely concerned about the citizens; they were egotistical, arrogant and motivated to gain power.…

Furthermore, these goals should be rooted in that villain’s psychology.” (The Nook Press Blog).
