Visual Learner
An act of remembrance is one of the gifts that visual learners possess. They have the ability to recall what is shown to them clearer than if the information was simply told to them. When processing information visual learners like to take notes by using highlights, bullet points, or summarizing info. Visual learners are also quiet individuals and observe other people’s facial expressions. This paper will reflect on these key points of a visual learner and focuses on enhancing the knowledge

I have always been a visual learner, although I did not realize the technical term for my condition as a child, once I became an educator and became aware of the various ways to classify learners based on their abilities and learning style, I quickly discovered who I was and was able to classify myself accordingly. Visual learners are more inclined to gain knowledge through physical interaction and hands on experience with tools they can see, rather than through verbal instructions or explanations. However, it has been my experience that all types of learners find visual aids helpful, even f they are just used as supplemental information to enhance the knowledge they gained through verbal communication. Visual aids, such as process flow charts, are…

Graphs and diagrams are also helpful when it comes to comparing data. When it is written out in words it can be confusing whereas a chart both can accurately compare and measure over a certain period of time. Visual learners process information the best through graphical tools which allows them to interpret data in a logical manner. Students with this learning style should formulate their notes in an orderly fashion, so that they would be able to visualize how the pieces of the puzzle are connected.…

Understanding different learning styles is important when evaluating how a person processes information. A learning style is simply a form of learning or an approach a person takes to learn and memorize information (LdPride.net, n.d). Possessing an understanding of how she receives and processes information helps the interviewer to be more organized. As a result when deciding how easily she remembers information, she refers to reading a book and observing a behavior as examples. Because the interviewer is a visual learner, he remembers information easier through observation. When asking Dorothy the same question she responded, “I remember more details when I observe a behavior, as opposed to reading about something, but I do not need to be directly involved”. The interviewer’s response is “it is much easier for me to remember details when I observe them. I prefer to be directly involved, especially if it is something I have to repeat”.…

The Visual preferred learning style is a unique learning style that rarely uses words to provide information to the learner. Visual learners are highly successful in learning material when it is presented to them in pictures, graphs, flow charts, slides, posters, labeled diagrams, maps, and other various forms to stress important details such as underlining, using different colors, along with highlighters. According to my VARK Questionnaire Result this was an 11 on my point sheet, one of my higher results.…

Visualization is a key tool for being a visual learner. I am able to learn best when I am able to look at a picture or a graph. Unfortunately, many of my college courses so not provide visuals, so in order to succeed I have to find other ways to study. I can help myself by making color-coded notes or even by making boxes around information that I have to know. The Learning Styles Inventory and Learning Styles Descriptions by Solomon and Felder has taught me that I am a reflective, sensing, visual, learner. The Reading/Learning Process in Chapter One of A Brief Guide to Writing from Readings by Stephen Wilhoit has taught me to find a definition and purpose, ask questions, and take notes. I never like to write academic papers, especially if I don not know why I am writing it. If there is at least some sense of a purpose then I might be inclined to do the assignment well. I understand that the purpose of this assignment is to summarize what we have learned about ourselves while we have been here, so I was inclined to write this paper! I have learned that it is good to ask questions. It is encouraged that I ask questions to make sure that I understand the assignment or reading so I can do…

Fleming developed an inventory designed to help students learn more about their individual learning preferences. Fleming’s VAK model identified three learning styles; Visual, Auditory and Kinaesthetic. According to this theory most people have a preferred learning style however some people may prefer to learn using a mixture of all three styles. As with the previous theories each style within the VAK model has individual characteristics based on their learning preferences. Visual learners learn best through seeing. They think in pictures and have intense mental images. They like to learn using maps, charts, pictures or videos. They tend to have visual skills in activities such as reading, writing, puzzle building, interpreting charts and graphs, and painting and have a good sense of direction. Auditory learners like to learn through listening. They tend to think in words rather than pictures and learn best through lectures, discussions, talking things through and hearing other people’s opinions. Auditory learners tend to have highly developed auditory skills and are generally good at speaking and presenting. They demonstrate these skills through speaking, listening, storytelling, explaining, understanding the syntax and meaning of words, remembering information and analysing language usage. Kinaesthetic learners learn best through moving, touching and doing. They find it hard to sit…

In a recent study, I was able to determine which learning style category I fell into. Three learning style categories were discussed. Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic Learning Styles were presented. The first part of the assessment was to go through three different lists consisting of different habits often associated with learning and studying. I was to read through each list and check off all that applied to my personal study and learning habits. When I was done, I found that I am dominantly a Visual Learner. Some of the characteristics I possess in relation to being a Visual learner are 1) I often ask for instructions to be repeated 2) I like to use maps or note cards when I review my notes 3) The best way for me to remember something is to picture it in my head. These are some…

One of the most important learning styles that aides my learning process is the visual learning style. Saying that, this learning style allows me to understand and multi task two things at the same time to solve a challenging problem. For example, in mathematics I can be adding and subtracting double denominators and changing fractions at the same time. This learning style helps me grasp the content better and enables me to enjoy it. At times it is necessary to combine more than one learning style to obtain the objective and yield a positive outcome in the learning process. When reading any new material, identifying…

Answering the questions from the Learning Style Inventory I established that my learning style is visual. This did not surprise me for I tend to remember faces rather than names and remembering information is vital when I have a textbook, visual aids, and written information (Bethel University, 2013, p. 19). Being a visual learner indicates that I learn with my eyes to retain the knowledge needed. This perhaps is beneficial because it requires me to understand my learning abilities to succeed in any aspect in life. In my personal and professional life being a visual learner provides me the ability to learn challenging and difficult tasks and skills. Taking on a class or subject would be simple by knowing that visual learners operate by observing…
