CGD 218/Visual Literacy in Business

Apple, Inc. has revolutionized personal computing since its founding in 1976 by Steve Jobs, Ronald Wayne and Steve Wozniak. For more than 30 years, Apple, Inc. has introduced groundbreaking products and accessories that truly defy the technological barriers. It has now become one of the world’s most famous computer brands and has introduced innovative products such as iPods, Macintosh, Mac laptops and QuickTime. The logo for Apple, Inc. F.K.A as Apple Computers, Inc. is possibly the most recognizable logo in history. For the past three decades, Apple, Inc. has been the pioneer in the computing industry with its landmark products. In the late 1970’s, the founders Steve Jobs, Ronald Wayne and Steve Wozniak introduced Apple Computers, Inc. to the American public. I was only a year old when the company was established and was familiar with their products growing up as a child. I do not have a distinct moment in my childhood that stands out relating to the Apple Computer however by the time I could understand the concept of computers Apple was already a household name. From the 1970’s to today, the company has experienced many transitions. From the dismissal of its co-founder Steve Jobs in 1985 to the updating of the company logo in 1997 to the changing of the company name in 2007 however even with the changes Apple has still remain a powerhouse in the industry. The first logo of Apple Computer, Inc. depicted Isaac Newton under an apple tree deep in contemplation. It was designed by the co-founder Steve Jobs and Ronald Wayne in 1976. “It was inspired by a quotation by Wordsworth that was also inscribed into the logo that said: Newton...a mind forever voyaging through strange seas of thought with Apple Computer Co on the ribbon banner ornamenting the picture frame”. (Harold, 2007, para. 2). The logo changed altogether in 1977 to a rainbow bitten apple as Steve Jobs

Apple, Inc. was founded in 1977 by Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs in the U.S. At that time, the main product of the company was personal computers. After a success in the personal computer field, Apple started to expand their product area. They sold Macintosh, computer software, Pippin, video game console, Newton, world first PDA, iPod, mp3 player and so on. Some of their products were successful whereas others eventually failed. Both successful cases and failed ones contributed to Apple's current success, the status as the most innovative firm in the world. Their innovative idea with high technology and trendy design attracted customers globally. In fact, the brand image of Apple is related to its core competency, "creativity" and "innovation." In addition, "convergence" among Apple products is one of the core competencies of Apple. In other words, each of their products is related to one another or more:-For instance, Mac computer to Mac Operating System, iPod to iTunes music store. In this sense, once a customer buys one Apple product and is satisfied with it, he/she becomes a fan of Apple. It leads to a purchase of another Apple product in a series. This strategy is connected with their recent structural change, towards expansion of products to cover the whole IT industry. Through this movement, Apple is planning to establish the Total Information System (TIS). Recently Apple launched innovative product iPad, a type of advanced tablet PC. Likewise, Apple keeps changing to Total Information System firm with their core competency.…

After viewing the presentation on Howling Wolf’s Treaty Signing at the Medicine Creek Lodge, I feel that the reason why we think that his record of the Treaty Signing event is more honest than other artist’s illustration of the event is because, Wolf’s painting even though it may have looked a bit naïve had more detail of what went on in that event. In Wolf’s painting he had in it where Cheyenne, Arapaho, Kiowa and Comanche peoples and the U.S. government met at the intersection of Elm and medicine Lodge Creek by some cotton wood and elms he made sure to draw in the creek and cotton wood and elms, in this location that is where the Treaty was negotiated. In Wolf’s painting it also showed detail of the Comanche people, it showed their teepee’s, it also shows how the warriors that were committed to a woman painted their hair red to confirm his affection also with the woman in the picture shows the importance of woman in their Plain Society. The difference in Wolf and in Taylor’s painting was that wolf carries out himself and others through signifying adornment and decoration and Taylor is more lifeless and only has painted is what I think is what he felt was important.…

April fool’s Day of 1976 would mark the start date of the very powerful Apple Inc. Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, two college dropouts, began creating a computer circuit board in a garage. The main goal was to bring an easy-to-use computer to the market. By 1978, the product Apple II was released, and Apple Inc. became a powerful market leader. Unfortunately, as a response to the IBM PC, Apple introduced the Macintosh in 1984, which proved to be harmful to the company. Although it made a breakthrough in the technical design, ease-of-use, and technical elegance, it’s processing speed and lack of compatible software limited sales, lowering income by 62%, and eventually pushing Jobs out of Apple.…

The reason why I picked the way I communicated my message is because it is the easiest way to communicate a message to a large group of people. Using power point slide show can be easy because it can keep the presenter organize and on scheduled as far as getting a message across. Each slide goes in order, as you want to talk to your group of people. For me my message is talking about the achievements of my dental clinic has made in the past year. With the power point speech notes at the bottom of each slide it can keep me on point, and able to communicate my message. With the first slide it’s a simple welcome, and opening remarks. It’s a way to break the ice, and to welcome any distinguish guess that might have came for the power point presentation. Also, it’s a way to get into the presentation, and if I wanted to I could have had a funny comment to get people into the message its self. The second page is really getting into the information, and really showing the achievements that the clinic has made. That’s the over all message I’m trying to get across is that our clinic has been able to see not only mobilizing soldiers, de-mobilizing soldiers, and our normal population we are suppose to see at that clinic. Now along with all that the clinic has been able to keep their failed appointments down, and have set new trends that dencom has started to follow. This right here is a big achievement that has been made by our clinic. We see exams, and if a patient can be seen for a cleaning the same day we will see them the same day. By doing this we can cut down on appointment times, and the number of appointments that have to be seen. By doing this patients don’t have to remember so many different appointments. Dencom has decided to follow this same idea, and apply it to all dental clinics in the Army. This is one of the biggest achievements that the Army could recognize our clinic…

As one of the most well-known and respected companies in the world, Apple Inc. was one of the few companies to emerge from the recession stronger than ever. Started in 1976 as a computer business, most of Apple’s success has been attributed to its music- and video-related products and the iPhone. Quickly became known then as a company that made innovative consumer electronic products instead of just a company that made computers, it changed its name in 2007 from “Apple Computer” to “Apple Inc.”. As Steve Jobs, Apple’s former CEO and co-founder said, “The Mac, iPod, Apple TV and iPhone. Only one of those is a computer. So we’re changing the name.”…

In 1976 Ronald Wayne designed the very first Apple Computer Co. logo. This logo depicted Isaac Newtown sitting under a tree to reflect the revolutionary nature of this. However, Wayne’s design wasn’t appreciated by many, and thus did not gain much popularity. In less than a year, Steve Jobs commissioned Rob Janoff, one of the most famous graphic designers ever, to design the new Apple logo, a rainbow silhouette of an apple. This reflected the idealistic nature of the computers and also showed the powerful aspect that the computers hold with the ability to process so many different colors. In 1998 however, the Apple logo changed its colorful nature to a monochromatic look reflecting the modern nature of the world, not to mention the contrast between the color schemes of the gray computers with monochrome logos. The original logo was of an image of Sir Isaac Newton leaning against an apple tree with a portion of a William Wordsworth poem running around the border, designed by Ron Wayne in 1976. One year later the design was changed to a visual graphic of an apple with a bite mark. “According to Janoff, the “bite” in the apple logo was originally implemented so that people would know that it represented an apple not a tomato. It also lent itself to a nerdy play on words (bite/byte), a fitting reference for a tech company” (Apple 2009). The apple was rainbow colored. This was believed to make the company more “humanize”. The color was not in any particular order, except for the green at the top were the leaf was. As time pasts the apple logo changed to the monochrome logo that represents the company today.…
