Course Description:
This course explores the art and technique of photography for films with visual effects. Students learn the technical and aesthetic aspects of practical camera work. They also study camera composition and motion specific to a 3-D digital space as part of the process to visualize scenes in a movie before filming begins. Other concepts, such as shot definition, framing and timing, are addressed.
Course Goals: The following course goals articulate the general objectives and purpose of this course:
1. Students will learn about topics and terminology as they relate to visual effects based cinematography.
2. Students will learn about composition selection through a lens driven medium.
3. Students will learn strong visual concepts and how to capturing imagery for use with CG in layer-based films.
4. Students will learn to about lens functions, camera operations, lighting and exposure control.
5. Students will learn about set survey and Camera Data Collection.
