Media Degree Personal Statement
I am hoping to study for a media degree. I find it incredible and inspiring how the media activities have control over our lives. I am interested by the movements and impacts of human communications of all kinds and am keen to extend the insight I have gained so far. Before my fascination for the media world, I like everyone else was subconsciously a part of it. The news that was on TV, the magazines that I read and the commercials that urged me to buy the products I bought. The media and the world it creates around us are always there whether we are aware of it or not. Becoming a media student I loved knowing why the media did things and how they accomplished them. By studying media at a degree level I feel I will be able to enhance my interest …show more content…
When on these courses I worked on producing a variety of media projects including creating a digital sequence production, and studying how films are developed, made and marketed. My interest in the subject started through my GCSE Media Studies and my knowledge of the subject area has expanded at A-level where I am gaining analytical skills, helping me contextualise a wider variety of media forms. In media we have studied TV Drama, this has helped me develop textual analysis skills as well as analytical technical codes to see how sound, editing, camera and mise-en-scene create meaning. I also analysed representation of age, gender, social class, ethnicity, sexuality, regional identity and physical ability/disability.I also had the chance to visit the Warner Bros studio and got to see how films are made and behind the scenes footage. My other A-levels are English Language and Literature, Communication and Culture, and BTEC Law. Studying a combined Language and Literature course has given me the opportunity to analyse texts from both a literary and linguistic perspective.English language and literature and communication and culture has helped me with my essay writing skills, as well as time management

We see our world transformed through it. Media is our future. Media is our technology. Without it noting would be possible. Media is, and will remain the biggest communication ever. The reason why is because that is media communication. Communication is our way of keeping in contact. I believe that media has changed us a lot. Throughout the three articles this is mentioned through advertising, culture, and Disney. One of the articles mentioned how men just see women as sex. Marshall McLuhan said, “All media exist to invest our lives with artificial perceptions and arbitrary values”. Yet the media is very important in how so many people get to know the world around them. For example, when the lower and middle class do not interact with the upper class, it is impossible for them to understand about the upper class. The only way most of the other classes understand the upper class is through media portrayal. Media is one of the biggest networks in the world at the present day. It has been the significant part of the human life. Everyone is directly involved in and spends so many of his or her waking hours with some form of the media. Television, radio, newspaper, books, internet & social network…

The media is the source of contact we Americans keep with the other parts of the world. Without it how would we know what was going on in the globe? Fox News, CNN, NBC, and many others are our sources of information. Numerous people watch the news to see what is going on in other countries and in our own country. The news we hear creates a huge problem of knowledge, because reporters have a bias and we as the people do not know where the information is coming from.…

It tells us what the norms are for our society and shines a light of informalities in those around us. It tells us what’s exotic and what is from the homefront (Serfaty, Ahmed 51). The media has become a way of life for those in the higher education world and it does not look like it is going to change anytime soon. The constant intake of TV, social media, and other means of communication are starting to mold our experiences, lives, and outlooks on life. However many studies have suggested that this view is not accurate with the actual outcome in our lives. It is more likely that the Media is a mirror of our thoughts than persuades us. What we see on TV, the internet, and through our phones does not push us to act one way or another but merely wants to open up the stage for our viewing pleasure, sell items, and force advertising down our throats for however long the commercial is…

To me, the term liberal arts conjures images of impressive buildings with large stained glass windows, similar to the University of Michigan Law Quad. I am very well aware that liberal arts by no means has a definition that correlates to physical appearances, but I think the images that pop in my head strikes a deeper chord. They attest to the rigor and accomplishment of studying a liberal arts education during college. My definition of a liberal arts education is the exposure and study of a variety of academic spheres. With this type of education, one’s major is not the determinant of all the classes he or she will take. A liberal arts education pushes a student to study a variety of subjects even if it does not directly relate to his or her major.…

Part of the reason why I write about the media is because I am interested in the whole intellectual culture, and the part of it that is easiest to study is the media. It comes out every day. You can do a systematic investigation. You can compare yesterday’s version to today’s version. There is a lot of evidence about what’s played up and what isn’t and the way things are structured.…

Eating an apple is political. Maybe you got it from the bodega downstairs that always smells like burnt coffee and toothpaste. Maybe that apple came from New Jersey, or maybe it came from Washington State. If it came from Washington, a trucker probably brought it to you. He might have gotten tired on the road, did a little cocaine to keep him up, lost control, and run a car off the road, injuring all five of its passengers.…

Creativity of the mind has always interested me in the way people think and produce such fascinating and quirky ideas. Working and being involved in the Media would help to bring my imagination to life. Ever since I was a child, the world around me intrigued me to discover new things and develop my imagination into wondering what life is all about. The media entices me into wanting to learn about it because in a way everyone is a part of it, whether they intend to be or not. When I wake up in the morning, music immediately emanates through my room and enters my ears. Getting out of bed at an early hour is much easier when my favorite song is acting as a substitute to the normal beep-beeping of a droning alarm. Task one of my day is to check my e-mail and my Facebook account. I really find satisfaction in sharing my current activities, photos, and information with my fellow Facebook acquaintances. Social networking is also a great way for me to stay in touch and stay updated with my friends and family who live far away.…
