Abstract
Wal-Mart’s well written vision/statement, strategies, and overall responsibilities that describe what the organization is all about and the overall success of Wal-Mart are all reasons as to why this organization is the number one retailer in the world.
Wal-Mart opened its first store in 1962 in Rogers, Arkansas by Sam Walton. Wal-Mart is the largest retail corporation in the world. This organization runs large discount department stores and warehouses. Wal-Mart has gone from opening one store in 1962, to now having over 10,000 stores and Sam’s Clubs. Wal-Mart is the number one grocer in the country, and the number one retailer in the world (Walmart, 2012).
One can go so far as to say that Wal-Mart’s success propelled from their vision and mission statement. Wal-Mart’s mission statement is, “We save people money, so they can live better” or the shorter version, “Save money. Live better” (Walmart, 2012). Their purpose is, “If we work together, we’ll lower the cost of living for everyone…we’ll give the world an opportunity to see what its like to save and have a better life”(Walmart, 2012). Their mission statement is what they believe strengthens their ability not only to do well as a business, but to also to good in the world. Besides Wal-Mart having global responsibility goals, economic, and environmental goals, they as an organization have three overall goals: to be supplied 100% by renewable energy, to create zero waste, and to sell products that sustain our resources and the environment. Wal-Mart has a “good” vision and mission statement based on all of the success the organization has had. The mission statement simply dictates what they want to do and are doing. The vision of the organization is a well -written strategy due to the organization
