The organization that we have chosen is Sheng Siong Group Ltd and it belongs to the retail service industry. Sheng Siong Group Ltd is a public listed company on Singapore Stock Exchange (SGX) and the company is one of the largest grocery retailers with 33 outlets located all around Singapore.
Task 2: Organizational structure
The organization has centralized control as it is controlled by the Chief Executive Officer. By having a centralized structure, standard protocol procedures are being followed and this results in cost savings which can then be transferred to the consumers. As a result, effective decision making can be made and benefit the company by bringing in more revenue.
Task 3: Organizational Strategies
The organization employs a differentiation strategy as Sheng Siong make a great effort in their branding by introducing a local variety show, where customers get the chance to win prize money through the show. This helps encourage customers to buy more of their products and participate in the lucky draw. As a result, they will be able to maintain good relationship with the customers.
The mission statement for Sheng Siong is “We strive to offer communities in which we operate quality products at reasonable prices together with good service in order to create value to our customers”.
Sheng Siong first started its operations at neighbourhood areas whereby daily necessities are made available and affordable to consumers from the lower income groups. Operating at neighbourhood areas does not require high rental cost thus Sheng Siong can afford to set their prices lower than their competitors.
Besides this, the organization has also adopted the product differentiation strategy as they imported wide range of products for consumers whereby it is less likely to be found at other supermarkets.
