In the article by Catherine Roberts, The New War on Obesity, she reports that, “The smoking rate among American adults has dropped from about 42 percent in 1965 to 15 percent in 2015”. The same concept can be applied to unhealthy foods and may possibly have the same fruition. Excise taxes can be placed on these foods based on their content while healthy ones are subsidized. If unhealthy foods are higher priced then demand will fall because the young consumer will choose a lower priced healthier option.
