Walter Osborne created and sustained a climate of equality, trust and fairness within the Red Tops Dance Orchestra; consequently, the Red Tops enjoyed sustained success over the span of decades. Osborne’s past experiences combined with his intuitive nature contributed to his effective team leadership of the Red Tops. All the principles employed by Osborne are applicable to building cohesive teams in any industry or environment. The most meaningful take-away from Osborne’s team leadership of the Red Tops to me is his steadfast integrity and commitment relative to guiding individual talents toward the goals of the band. Being able to be loyalty is a main attribute as in the battle field you will need to have each other’s back. For example if one of your men has injured them self you will need to make him priority and stop fighting and put attention on him, because his life is more important than fighting with opponent. Being loyal also means not to turn your back in one of your team mates will they need your help. For example if your team mates have not got his army shoes you could maybe lead him some so that you both are able to work on the front line. Wheelan (2013) identifies the four stages of team development and provides detailed explanation of how a group transforms itself from a stage one group of uncertainty into a successful, highly productive stage four team. This requires work and a thorough understanding of the many internal/external influences that can occur during each stage. A team member or leader who is well versed in these stages and who can evolve with each stage will be better equipped to deal with possible obstacles that can hinder group progress and implement practices to help the group successfully work through a particular stage. The goal is for the group to become a team that will value the importance of everyone’s contribution within the group and how it relates to the overall ability of the group to successfully accomplish the mission. Leadership is defined as ‘the process in which an individual influences the group of individuals to attain a common goal’. The goal is attained by mutual cooperation and cohesive behavior. A leader infuses a sense of positivity and directs others to reach the specified goal. Therefore for a person to be a successful leader they need to work hard to accomplish their goal and influence others to do the same. For greatest success and communication with their hierarchy they must be trustworthy and responsible. In addition, the person needs to be nice and approachable so that they can interact with others and are as approachable as possible. Although a leader must be approachable they still need to discipline their group or section in appropriate ways so that they may show respect and pride for the band. In order for students to maximize their learning experience is important to be aware of their preferred learning style. A great tool that is used to determine the learning style preferences is the VARK (, audio, reading / writing, visual kinesthetic) questionnaire. Assessing VARK learning style was developed by Neil Fleming in 1987. The questionnaire consists of 16 questions with multiple response options. Respondents are allowed to skip a question or multiple choice response options if necessary (Barman, Jaafar, and Rahim, 2009). Those who took the survey questions are easy to relate to, because they are based on real life situations (Rogers, 2009). Once the completed questionnaire a score is provided along with the corresponding preference learning and learning strategies identified. However a ‘leadership style’ is a unique style that people recognise to encourage or influence other people in a way others do not so that they admire and want to be like. We had the freedom to choose who our desired organization could be and to observe them. After much thought and consideration, we chose to observe the Association of Information Technology Professionals, more commonly known as AITP.
