David Zinczenko’s essay, “Don’t Blame the Eater,” (New York Times, November 23, 2002) emphasizes the idea that the large conglomerates may be held accountable for some legal responsibility for the skyrocketing rate of obesity in America within children. In a methamphetamine-producing group, there is a spectrum spanning from highly respected roles to roles not respected at all. Most commonly, a member of a meth-producing group may start out with an undesired role and slowly work his or her way up to a more respected position, depending on his or her success at their previous position. The most desired position within a methamphetamine-producing group is the “cook.” The cooks hold the power, because they are continually providing the desired good, meth. In Janelle Monáe’s “Hell You Talmbout” she talks about people living in poverty. She first starts with the first verse saying that in poverty there is a lot of violence, from bombs being thrown, guns being pulled out, and a body lying on the streets from police brutality. In today’s world, one in 88 children has autism (Glicksman). Kamran Nazeer was one of those children. He mentions in the introduction to the book Send in the Idiots: Stories From the Other Side of Autism that he went to an elementary school in New York with all autistic students. Before reading Jill Dubisch’s article You Are What You Eat, I had many presumptions regarding how Dubisch would connect the health food movement to Geertz and his definition of religion. When thinking about the supposed “premise” of religion, I had always believed the vague and obscure definition that religion is a set of beliefs and practices that center around a divine force.
