Now there are plenty of recipients who abuse the programs like TANF and also SNAP ( provides low income recipients with cash assistance to pay for food, clothing, housing and other needs.) Why do recipients abuse their benefits? Well most not all cases tend to sell their SNAP benefits for cash to buy drugs and or alcohol. “A 2011 Florida drug law in effect for four months actually cost the state more.”( Santa Fe County Gazette Editorial) but just because it cost that state more doesn’t mean it’s not helpful to save taxpayers’ dollars. It also helps the recipients to save to pay the bills that TANF and SNAP do not help with.
As a result of mandatory drug testing for TANF and SNAP recipients it will not only resolve the cases who abuse the benefits it will help the families and the people who need it more then to just fill a drug problem. Of course saying a recipient is using the benefits to buy drugs is stereotypical, but that’s where mandatory/random drug testing is a good thing. Parents who work two jobs who have to choose to either pay the utility bill or buy food is who need these programs the most.
