the current ruler. The reason why the guards would do this is because there were also civil wars that broke out in the Western Roman Empire. The Fall of Western Roman Empire also could’ve also been caused by legions fighting legions, what I mean by that is that the citizens of Rome or the poor would often disagree with the government of the Western Roman most of it about poor living conditions or taxes. So that is some of the reasons for the Fall of The Western Roman Empire.
The Fall of The Western Roman Empire was not caused by one issue and in this paragraph you will know what those reasons are.
The legions of Western Rome demanded a increase to their salary and if that didn’t happen then they would not protect the empire, so the taxes were raised. A lot of the Roman goods were actually not from the Rome they were from other empires. There were also pirates on the Mediterranean that would steal there goods or even worse the pirates would steal their ships. There was also taxes on imported goods which is called high tariffs. They also lacked gold that was imported to Rome, which lead to a loss of gold coins. In Rome there was something called inflation, that is when the prices of a product go up but you might think if the prices go up then the value would go up, well you're wrong the value would actually go down. Instead of paying for something the people of Rome would barter, that is when they would trade for something instead of paying for it. This would cause very limited money flow. The farming in Rome would also decrease and while that is happening famine develops. There were also financial difficulties for the farmers and merchants, and many people from outside of Rome would migrate into Rome or the other …show more content…
cities.
Disease’s have been killing people since the start of time and it is also a cause of the Fall of The Western Roman Empire.
In Rome there was overcrowding living which could lead to pollution, illness and even worse death. There was also something very dangerous that was everywhere in Rome and this was called lead poisoning. There were lead lined pipes in the city of Rome, and the eating utensils in Rome also caused people to get sick. The dishware in Rome was also a problem which could lead to sickness and even death. One of the worst disease in the world was also spreading in Rome, and it was called malaria. Malaria killed many people in the Western Roman Empire but there was another disease called the Bubonic Plague, this plague killed many people in the Western Roman Republic too. Also in 262 CE, thousands of people from the Western Roman Empire died from as you can guess, disease. Attila the Hun retreats from an attack on Rome just to avoid
malaria.
There were many reasons for the Fall of The Western Roman Empire and foreign invaders are one. The Roman Empire was absolutely enormous, it was way too big to be protected. The Western Roman Empire also used unprotected walls and natural borders which is just allowing people to invade the city of Rome. And you need people to guard right? Well there were not enough legionaries to guard the boundaries. The legions were also weak, and the Germanic mercenaries that were hired by Rome decide to turn against Rome and they attacked it. The legionnaires were way to concerned about their salary and who controlled the throne, and they lost focus of their jobs. The Germanic tribes also invaded Rome and while they were invading Rome they destroyed the aqueducts for fresh water, but there was not enough for everyone. The Rhine and Danube Rivers also froze so it was easy access to invade Rome. And in 410 CE the Germanic Chief Alaric and the Germanic tribes invaded Rome. So that is how foreign invaders affected the Fall of The Western Roman Empire.
