What Are Mt Union Strengths And Weaknesses
Attending Mount Union has given me many opportunities to better myself musically and as a person. Since attending, I have been given the opportunity to join numerous ensembles and clubs. I was also given the chance to notice my strengths and weaknesses with my major. These strengths and weaknesses are exhibited in my everyday life and help lay the foundation of my future. One of my biggest weaknesses is procrastination. There are times where I have assignments and obligations that I tend to push back until close to the due date. In my head, I think “it will get done on time”. Doing this is not the best idea because it causes stress to scramble and get the assignment done. Along with this, my time management skills need some improvement. There …show more content…
When I practice, I can be very productive with as little as 20 minutes, up to 45 minutes. Personally, I feel like I need to put more time into practicing my secondary instrument. I have been playing mallet percussion since the start of middle school in sixth grade. With this experience, I find sight reading piano music easy at times. Due to this, I sometimes only work four days a week compared to the six I do for percussion. Whenever I feel stressed and overwhelmed, I am not able to get as much done as I would like to on certain weeks. Two classes that have given me the most trouble are History of Western Music and Musicianship. When in classes that are lecture based, I find it difficult to take notes fast enough and be able to memorize the tiniest details. This was one of my biggest issues in taking History of Western Music. When starting Musicianship, I had no prior vocal experience like most of the people in our class. I never learned solfege and had a difficult time trying to hold a pitch. As time progressed, the class became easier. I feel like areas such as my ear training and ability to hold a pitch have greatly improved this

I found I needed to practice the music piece more because I could not keep up with the fast tempo and rhythm. During practice at home, I would keep playing any notes I could not get at the first time. For example, at first I could not play high notes well; I was squeaking a lot, but eventually I practiced playing a lot of the high notes and got it to the pitch they needed to be.…

Many music educators believe that the most important way to acquire good sight-reading skills is by reading extensively and practising it regularly, i.e. reading large amounts of music and playing many different unfamiliar music. Mursell (1956) and Elliott (1982) confirmed the validity of this belief. Although reading and practising extensively has proved to improve sight-reading, in the 20th and 21st century, a number of sight-reading researches have found other factors that can affect sight-reading achievement and have devised strategies to teach the skill of sight-reading. This essay is to discuss the factors that affect piano sight-reading, and explore practise methods to improve the performance of it.…

My schedule and time are highly rigid and fixed. Every appointment of mine has to be proper organized into its suitable timeframe. In addition, punctuation matters. In my opinion, to be on time shows a significant sign of proper time-management skill which, to me, is very important to perform professionally. For example, I like getting my homework, assignments, or projects neatly ready and done quite ahead of the stated deadline. Moreover, I like to plan things in advance to give myself a glimpse of an overview of what to do and to handle my tasks in order as planned. This helps when any errors occur because it is easier for me to work out the difficulties step by step. I feel comfortable when things work according to prior plan. I also prefer to handle one task at a time which does not mean that I am not capable of multitasking but I would like to focus and stay concentrate on the job at hand to get the best end result out of it. So my work time is clearly separable from personal time and each activity or task is isolated from organisation as a whole. I see the importance of my works and the necessity to get them done even though it contradicts my feeling sometimes. My working principle is to…

Of course, practice is an extremely important factor. Every exceptional person has an intense practice schedule, just look at how much the olympians train to get gold. However, the way they practice also has an impact on how they perform. My orchestra director, Mr. Koehn is always telling us that we don’t have to practice a lot, we just have to practice smart. For example, don’t practice the parts of the song you can already play, just play the parts you have trouble with. Also, my pitching coach’s favorite quote is “Perfect practice makes perfect.” If you practice a curveball for an hour, but you’re pitching it wrong, it’s not going to make you better. In fact, it would probably make you worse.…

Time management is the act or process of planning and exercising conscious control over the amount of time spent on specific activities, especially to increase effectiveness, efficiency or productivity. Time management may be aided by a range of skills, tools, and techniques used to manage time when accomplishing specific tasks, projects and goals complying with a due date and balancing life overall. Time management strategies are often associated with the recommendation to set personal goals. These goals are recorded and may be broken down into a project, an action plan, or a simple task list. For individual tasks or for goals, an importance rating may be established, deadlines may be set, and priorities assigned. Furthermore, there are essentially four theorists that employed these methods of becoming successful in a timely manner, which are Adair, Masterton, Lewin, Schein and Feldman’s Power Learning Strategies. These four methods that were developed by these theorists have allowed me to effectively manage my time during the present year in revising for exams. Too long and not giving an idea as to where you are going with respect to this essay……
