The main meals contain a lot more calories than the side order of a soda. Like a Big Mac from McDonalds with some fries that most Americans eat. It's packed with calories, fats, and sodium. It is extremely unhealthy but most Americans are on the run and they will, "drive thru" to pick up one of these junk food meals. The serving size that the fast food industry feeds has more than tripled since the 1970s. Americans would benefit from smaller serving sizes of good food. Americans spend over $140 billion on fast food each year. If they spent their money on organic foods instead of these junk food meals, their diets would be much …show more content…

Within the last few years, obesity has become the number one health risk in America. “For the first time ever, overweight people outnumber average people in America. Doesn't that make overweight the average then? Last month you were fat, now you're average - hey, let's get a pizza!” jokes comedian Jay Leno (Jay Leno Quotes). Although he isn’t quite right with his statement, a large percentage of Americans are at least 30 percent over the ideal weight for a certain height. People are getting fatter and fatter because we don’t exercise as much as we used to. Technology has made it easier to do things so we move less. And with a fast food joint everywhere you look it is hard to pass one buy without grabbing a quick, cheap meal. Fast food restaurants also make you think you are getting more bang for your buck by upgrading to a super size for only $.50 more. Obesity is a problem because it causes many health problems like diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and even strokes. These are all reasons why America is one of the fattest countries in the world.…

One cause of people in America becoming obese is because they do not eat healthy . If they would eat healthy then they would not have such high cholesterol and they would live a little longer . People should start eating more healthy foods such as fruits , vegetables , and non-artificial foods . These foods can be purchased at the local grocery store , gas station , and even at food market . These foods are normally cheaper than the other fatty foods and fast food restaurants , such as McDonald’s , Burger King , and artificial foods that contain grease . Fast food restaurants are one of the main causes of obesity because people love it and are addicted to it . People can get addicted to these restaurants very easy because it is quick , easy , taste good , and they do not have to do dishes . What these people don’t realize is what this food is doing to their bodies until they take a look at a scale and see that they have put on a massive amount of wait due to all the calories they have taken in . While these products…

Because of this harsh reality calculation statics have shown that “…one-third of U.S. adults (37.7%) are obese [in America (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). Every year this number has increased since the late 1990’s, and this number does not even include overweight youth in America (Palo Alto Medical Foundation). Obesity is something that can weaken your overall well being and shorten your life expectancy. It can bring social and mental illnesses in a person’s life as well as cause stress. Some studies can even prove direct links to obesity and physical sicknesses like high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, and some forms of cancer. Today's American culture promotes eating habits that lead to obesity. Many of us help our selves to food that is readily or easily available instead of food that is healthy for us. This habit can be easily explained by the lack of time many Americans have and how many of us eat even when hunger is not present. As a result, America is considered the "fattest country in the world".…

America is one of the most obese countries in the world, and the reasons are quite obvious. Just take a look around you. Fast food chains are on every block (unhealthy foods are much less expensive than the healthy foods we should be eating), more and more technology to make our lives easier (and lazier), and high amounts of stress are all factors to weight gain in our country. A recent study in January 2010 shows that obesity rates have reached a constant level and stayed there for the past five years, but still the levels of obesity are still unacceptable. Almost 34 percent of American adults are obese; this number is more than double the amount of 30 years ago. And the percentage of obese children has nearly tripled in that time, to 17 percent. Are we doing enough to bring these numbers down? My opinion, is no. We have alot of changes to make. Obesity is a complex issue, involving many contributing factors. While it is…

Many Americans aren't very physically active. A common reason for this is that many people spend hours watching TV, on computers either doing work, schoolwork, and leisure activities. I found that people should limit their activity to no more than 2 hours a day because more than the 2 hours can cause overweight and obesity. People rely on cars, some have fewer physical demands at home or at work because of the modern technology. Also, a lack of physical education in classes at schools. People should be active by exercising to prevent overweight and obesity because it can burn the calories that they take in from the food they eat and the drinks they drink. Most people who are inactive may increase their health. An example of what people might get from being inactive is coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, colon cancer, and other health problems. I believe that our environment does not support healthy lifestyle habits like we should. It only encourages obesity. Some other reasons that can cause obesity and overweight children is Also, genetics and social factors (socioeconomic status, race/ethnicity, media and marketing, and the physical environment) can influence the energy consumption and expenditure. Which, your genes may affect the amount of fat you store in your body and where on your body you carry the extra fat. Some children adopt their habits from their parents and a child who has an overweight parent who eats high…
