Leadership opportunities are given and expected of all its members. Anyone with the drive and personal fortitude can excel and are given the chance in many ways. Leadership development schools, such as WLC (Warrior Leadership Course) and BNOC (Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course) are some of the ways the Nation Guard provides its soldiers with the means to develop themselves as future leaders. These courses show each just what kind of solider or leader they can be. In example, Jumping at 3,000 feet and carrying a 60 pound packs, the Guarding Angel team of Maddama and Tech Sargent Dan Warren, a member of the 308th Rescue Squadron from Patrick Air Force Base, Fla., leapt into 15 degree below zero tempetures blowing winds, and inclement weather (Hayes, 2012). It was all for the sake of a fellow solider in need of medical attention. These types of dedication and personal sacrifice are what make future leaders. Along with this there are many full time careers available to the solider who may wish to have more than just one weekend a month and two weeks out of the year. Full time jobs such as Mechanics, Office work, and recruiters have always been available to qualified personnel. With these jobs there are the benefits that come with them, such as medical and dental that provides update health care for all full time National Guard Soldiers. Housing and even clothing allowances can be paid to these personnel also. With the recent cost of medical insurance rising, the TRICARE military insurance provides the best coverage for both single and married soldiers. This gives the military personnel the best protection for them and their loved ones. Overseas duty or states side duty, the Guard provides the best care for its members. All of these choices can be tailor made to suit the needs of the soldiers, thus providing a better way of life and enriching ones growth as a person. Seeing the Guard as just a weekend Warrior is no longer the case. Today’s National Guard can be more closely compared to the regular Army in its training, benefits, and over all look.
