Most of these Stereotypes and misconceptions derive from early video game culture. The positive being how intellectual gamers are possessing knowledge on technology. This would carry on to the professional gamers title as nerds. The antisocial and slothful nature of gamers came from the way media would portray people who play video games. It is not fair something of that nature passed on to the pros, but people will believe the media without looking at the facts within the pro gamer community. The media has had an impact mostly because stereotypes stick with people. When any form of social platform stereotypes a group like pro gamers the misconceptions come into play. Up to now pro gamers are considered nerds because it contains some truth,
but not all of the pros are exclusively nerds what the media portrays gamers to be.
Overall, the pros are making money from competing in gaming contests. Professional gamers are often misunderstood because it's widely accepted that pro gamers are antisocial, physically weak, and idle nerds. The pros are more than what society has stereotyped professional gamers to be. In reality these competitive gamers do other activities like hang out with people and relatives. Some are really fit and don't spend the whole day grinding out a game with the team. Lastly professional gamers are not slothful nerds. This is the passion pro gamers live for and it is the game they play for which earns them the money. The professional gamers have to put up with life as much do other groups have to. Misunderstanding the gamers who play video games for a living is a mistake because of how broad of a community the pro’s share with one another. If people would take the time to understand who these professionals are the less stereotypes and misconceptions there would be on the professional gaming world.
