The Southern Economy didn't just rely on slavery, it was slavery. Slavery wasn't just necessary, it was also was also desired by most southern plantation owners who exploited slaves. The economic beneFits reaped from slavery is what made it so favorable. Because of this, the southern states who were accustomed to this lifestyle, were obviously against reform. Due to the norths dependence on Industrial business, they weren't at loss by the abolishment of slavery. Financially without slaves, the South would’ve most likely be nearing bankruptcy.
