Militarism is a build up of military resources with the goal or aim of using military power or action to achieve certain goals, especially national goals. It was the most important cause leading to the Great War; militarism was similar to the arm race today. Countries built large armies to protect themselves and invade other countries. It was widespread in the early 20th century in Europe and was significant cause of world war one. Nationalists put their interests of their own above the interests of the other countries. It also gave an idea to certain people to develop completely different nations. The pride of people and patriots lead to not letting other nations be dominant and be better than them (Mosley, 2014). Also, the love of one country demands hatred on the other countries. Therefore the pride and love of France demanded hatred to Germany, while the pride and love of Germany demanded the hatred of England. Nationalism also assured the people that their country is superior and fare, throwing the blame on the other countries, which was a huge impact on starting the war.
