Growing up one’s family is often the most important thing in their life. Its the first relationship one creates and its through a family that one learns the meaning of love and happiness. When one is grown up one often thinks of starting their own family. This usually involves children. These children were created through sexual intercourse by a mother and a father. Thus the child has a biological tie to its parents. This is what one could consider normal. However, not all families are created this way. Firstly, not all families have a mother or father. There are single parents or same-sex parents. Also, some children are adopted and others are created via surrogacy. The idea of what a family is constantly evolving. This is demonstrated in the picture book And Tango Makes Three. Tango is not the biological offspring of Roy and Silo (Richardson and Parnell 27). If everyone else is doing something that one can not identify with, does that not make them normal? These are valid thoughts that come to mind. Tomboy and And Tango Makes Three all go against this notion. For each of these characters being normal, meant being comfortable with themselves and ultimately doing what made them happy. It might have hurt to be not accepted by others but at the end of the day they put
