Feminism (Romeo & Juliet)
Today lots of women are feminists, but in the past many were feminists too. There’s few that fought for themselves and their rights while others hid, this could be the reason why writers represented them in their books.
Shakespeare is known and famous for all of his writings; an example is Romeo & Juliet. In Romeo & Juliet he wrote about a girl and represented her as a feminists; Juliet.
Juliet living in an aristocratic house didn’t have all the freedom males had, making her an example of feminism after not letting society suppress her.
First of all, Juliet doesn’t do what people that controlled her wanted her to do and not to do. An example would be her parents, in special his dad, whom wanted to marry her to Paris, but in response Juliet said “I will not marry yet; and when I do, I swear it shall be Romeo…” after he killed tybalt, her cousin, knowing it would make her parents mad. …show more content…
After Romeo killed Tybalt, her nurse didn’t trust Juliet to Romeo and encouraged her to marry Paris, but Juliet didn’t listen to her and said “thou and my bosom henceforth shall be twain” meaning she wouldn’t tell her her secrets anymore after talking bad about Romeo.
Juliet is very confident by loving someone she’s not supposed to love. Women today shouldn’t care about what others think about them and follow Juliet’s

Juliet’s personality and character is one of the most obvious and significant element that has been recontextualised. In Shakespeare’s play, Juliet is described to be more than just a pretty face; she’s smart, witty, determined and mature. She knows what she wants, and she gets it as it is Juliet who proposes to Romeo not the other way around. In the text, she is written to be thirteen years of age and begins the play as a naïve child who has thought little about love and marriage, but she grows up quickly upon falling in love with Romeo. Being a girl from a high social class family, she has none of the freedom Romeo has to roam around the city or climb over walls at midnight. However she shows amazing courage in trusting her life and future to Romeo, refusing to believe the worst reports about him and even willing to shut important people out of her life (nurse) the moment they turn against Romeo.
