an impact and supporting the government leaders running our Country. As an American citizen, my responsibility involves show gratitude and appreciate the freedoms taken for granite. Charlie Dent, Pennsylvania's representative on the congress house of representatives, states “Freedom does not come without a price. We may sometimes take for granted the many liberties we enjoy in America, but they have all been earned through the ultimate sacrifice paid by so many of the members of our armed forces.” One of the freedoms we take for granted in America is the freedom of religion. In North Korea, one of the worst crimes possible is believing in Christ or becoming a Christian. Hundreds of christians were arrested, some were executed publicly or sent to harsh labor camps in 2010. Also, in the Country of Laos 2010,29 Christians were killed, 20 arrested and numerous churches destroyed. As a Christian in today’s world it is extremely dangerous to openly express your faith. How lucky are we American that we can go to church and read our bibles without having to worry constantly about being found out. A way I can thank and honor our freedoms is to pledge to the national anthem. Recently many athletes have been protesting by sitting down or not participating during the National Anthem. San Francisco's 49ers quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, started the protest to show support for colored individuals being oppressed in the United States and against police brutality. There are many ways to protest against police cruelty and injustice but to openly disrespecting the American flag is not the appropriate way to express a cause, worthy to stand up for. Honoring our veterans is a way I can show gratitude for the many freedoms taken for granite. “Our debt to the heroic men and valiant woman in the service of our Country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifice.” quote from Harry S. Truman. Without soldiers willing to fight for our freedoms and to protect our Country, we would not have so many of the freedoms we have today. Just the simple phrase “thank you for your service” can mean more than you think. My responsibility of an American is to stand up for what is right. “There comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but he must take it because conscience tells him it is right.” I can stand up for bullying in America today. Acorrding to dosomething.org over 3.2 million students are victims of bullying each year. Even though I have never been bullied, I understand the desire of wanting to be liked or needing the approval of others. Having extremely low self-esteem can hurt more than just your confidence. There are many consequences, such as anxiety, increase likelihood of depression, and stress. A small way I can help stand against bullying is to encourage, and compliment others when they need it. Another worthy cause to stand up for is abortion.
There is no justifiable reason for abortion, other than the irresponsibility of the parent. Abortion all results to is teen girls not taking the responsibility of their mistakes. The definition of killing is an act of causing death, especially deliberately. Abortion is nothing else but an act of causing death to a baby that has not chance to live. Murdering an individual because of anger is a sentence to life time in prison, but killing a baby is legal in the United States. There are many ways to stand up for abortion one way is by joining in the 40 days for life cause which is fasting, praying and doing outreach in your community to stand up against abortion. As an American my responsibility is to stand up against poverty in the world. According to dosomething.org 1 billion children worldwide are living in poverty. Throughout my life I have never experienced true poverty, by living in America I never go hungry, always have a home to got back to when it’s snowing or raining. Many children in other Countries are dieing of hunger and getting diseases from the food they can eat. To help poverty in the world I can donate money to a local hunger fund, support food banks and play online games to help, games such as freerice.com will help feed kids around the
world. My responsibility is to show support to our president and government leaders. A way that I can accomplish that goal is to be informed with the Countries current issues. With the presidential debate on going, I have to decide who I think is best fit to run our Country and resolve the difficulties our world will face. In order to decide who is most applicable for the job, I need to be informed on what they stand for and believe. I need to hear everything that they have to say before I give them my vote. Another event I should be informed about is the Iran war. Many American soldiers are fighting for their Country and their lives. It is important to be informed on how the war is going, if we will win, or lose. How drastic the effects will be if ISIS wins. A way I can support my president and government leaders is to pray for them. Baptist evangelist, Billy Gram, quotes “To get nations back on their feet, we must first get down on our knees.” I may not be able to hold a conversation with the president or the government leaders, but I am able to pray that they will live up to all the duties they must accomplish. Another way I am able to show support of the men and woman in office is to honor and respect them. I may not agree with everything the president stands for, or puts into play, but I can humbly show respect. Many of the leaders in office make important decisions every day, though they may not always make the most sensible choice they still are the ones having to make that choice. I do not always make the best choice for myself and others under extreme decisions. The president is always watched, if he says something that is offencive towards others or make a mistake there are many critics waiting to report. He is an example to America, it is my choice if I follow that example or not. He was chose to lead our Country with honor and dignity, it is his responsibility to live up to the expectations that is laid before him. But my responsibility to respect the decisions made in his office. There is change needing to be done in this Country , it is my responsibility help make that change. My responsibility to America includes showing gratitude for the freedoms taken for granted, striving to make an impact and to support the government leaders running our Country. There are many ways to accomplish this goal as a citizen, but I hope I will live up to the responsibility I have set before me.
