What Is Polyphemus Rewrite (Book IX): Chapter Summary
Polyphemus Rewrite: New Coasts and Poseidon’s Son (Book IX)
I awoke from within my cave filled with food and drink and shortly after went on with my normal task of pasturing my sheep and collecting some timber for my fire. As I came back into my cave a threw down the timber and started to ready my ewes in which I wished to milk that night and closed the end of my cave with a huge rock. With milking the ewes I am very good due to my strength and practice, I used the curds I made from the milk to drink as my supper.
Once I went to poke the fire I saw strangers in the back of my cave. “Strangers, who are you?” I asked followed by a few more questions about their whereabouts. The leader of the pack seemed to speak up saying that they were from

I then proceeded through my evening chores and ate two more of the men as my supper. After my supper the leader came up to me and offered me a drink of what he claimed was great wine, along with calling me a monster. I tried the wine and it was the best I’ve ever had, I then formulated a plan promising the leader a gift if he’s to give me more of this wonderful wine, along with asking his name! After three more bowls of wine the leader said “Remember the gift you promised me, and I should tell you. My name is Nohbdy.” I then replied explaining that as a gift I would eat Nohbdy last, after which I fell asleep drunk.
I then woke up bellowing because of extreme pain, for the strangers had impaled my eye blinding me! I then dug the shaft out of my eye to feel my eye, releasing a loud scream. When the other Cyclopes came because of the noise I shouted to them that Nohbdy had tricked and ruined me, to which they replied that if pain was given by Zeus to my father Poseidon I should pray to. I then witnessed the leader laughing and swiftly through the stone opening my cave keeping my arms out wide to intercept anybody willing to

When they were full the men asked to take more cheese and leave, but Odysseus refused wanting to meet their host and get a guest gift. They waited for the cyclops to return to his cave. When the cyclops returned, Odysseus and his men hid, but the cyclops saw their shadows in the light of the fire. Odysseus demanded a guest gift or else feel the wrath of Zeus. The guest gift they received was quite unexpected, the cyclops swooped down and grabbed two of Odysseus' men, killed them then ripped them limb from limb and ate them. Clever as he was, Odysseus offered the cyclops some of the finest wine he had. The wine put the cyclops to sleep after a few cups, then Odysseus stabbed him in the eye with a steak he had sharpened. Angered, the cyclops sat in front of the door waiting for Odysseus and his men to try to leave. Odysseus keenly hid his men and himself on the underbelly of the flock and waited until morning. When the flock left their pens to pasteurize Odysseus and his men left along with them. They ran back to their ship and set sail, Odysseus taunting the ugly…

Well my prayer didn't come true. We had another very strange couple of days. Our ship came upon an island of Cyclops. What strange creatures they are. Once again Odysseus only had a few men go onto the island and the others stay on the ship. Once again I was chosen to go. Once we climbed on the island we went into the very first cave we saw. There was no Cyclops in there so I told Odysseus that we should take what we need and go. But no, he wanted to see the creature and see what it had to offer. After a bit of time the Cyclops came back, but when he entered his cave, he moved a rock to block the entrance. The rock was so big that all the men combined probably couldn't move a single inch. The Cyclops immediately noticed us and asked what we were doing in his home. Odysseus said that we are sailors come to this island and it is our tradition to give gifts to guests so that is what we are looking for. The Cyclops didn't really appreciate this and ate two of our men, just like that without hesitation. He kept eating men from time to time so Odysseus came up with a plan to get us out. He got the Cyclops really drunk and then tricked him into believing Odysseus’s name was Nobody. Then when the Cyclops had fallen asleep, Odysseus and a few men including me sharpened a large wooden pole. We took it and burned it in the embers of a fire, then finally took it and jammed it into the Cyclops eye blinding him. He yelled out and when other Cyclopes came and asked what had happened, he yelled it was Nobody. Then Odysseus got us all to hang onto the underside of a sheep so when the Cyclops opened the door, we would be set free without him knowing. This worked flawlessly and we were free. We were all set to go home, but stupid Odysseus felt the need to call back to the Cyclops what his real name was and where he was from. Throughout the entire journey I had thought that Odysseus was doing a good job. He had tricked the Cyclops and had gotten us out of…

"We were sailing as the advice had been given by Helenus. But as we sailed close to Italy, we were called by a wretched sailor to the 'Help me, Trojans, I am a wretched Greek! With the leader of Ithaca, I sailed to Sicily, but in our flight when Polyphemus had devoured many of my buddies and he was blinded by our men I wandered away from my friends; therefore I did not sail with my king away from the island.' As the wretched man was shouting Polyphemus walked to the shore, he was dire foul-smelling big blind monster. We sailed away from the island immediately; we sailed the Greek and we carried him out in our ships.…
