The film focused on the troubles of Scarlett O’Hara, the daughter of a plantation owner, throughout the antebellum period to the Reconstruction Era. Scarlett O’Hara was infatuated with Ashley Wilkes who was engaged with his cousin Melanie Hamilton. Despite his marriage, she continued to pursue him in an attempt to gain his heart. Another man, Rhett Butler, developed an interest in her despite knowing her true nature. With the war about to begin, she agreed to a marriage with Charles Hamilton regardless of the fact that she had no feelings for him. During the war, Charles perished and she felt no remorse. Scarlett went to Atlanta to live at the Hamilton home in hopes of waiting for Ashley there. Soon the Battle of Gettysburg took place and the South suffered greatly. Luckily, Ashley survived and returned to Atlanta where Scarlett is reunited with him however, he continued to love Melanie. Soon, he left to go to war again and he convinced her to promise to take care of Melanie. Later, the Union besieged Atlanta and Melanie had to give birth without any medical assistance. Afterwards, Scarlett relied on Rhett to rescue her and take her home to Tara but he left her midway so he would be able to take part in the war. In this film, the relationship between slaves and masters is portrayed to be pleasant however, this is largely inaccurate. The film fails to demonstrate the horrifying treatment that the majority of slaves received. In addition, there were no signs of any form of rebellion in the film which occurred frequently in the South. In the film, during the war, the slaves were shown to be pleased to go and help the South in the war but in reality, most slaves would run away or even join the Union army. Other than the largely inaccurate portrayal of the slaves, the remaining details of the film is generally accurate. The clothing used in the film as well as the details of the war are accurate however the depiction of the war is biased towards the South. It is portrayed as if the South desires to protect their land and peacefully secede but the North wishes for the
