What Is The Antebellum Period?
The antebellum period refers to the period of time after the War of 1812 and before the start of the Civil War. Throughout this period of time, the tension between the abolitionists and the supporters of slavery began to increase which eventually led to the gradual separation of North and the South. With the Industrial Revolution, the North’s economy centered upon manufacturing while the South’s economy relied on plantations due to the cotton boom. Cotton was immensely profitable in the South and it relied on slavery in order to cultivate and harvest it. In addition, slaves would also raise tobacco, corn, rice, and sugarcane. However, with the ban of importing slaves from Africa in effect, the price of slaves rose sharply. This caused small …show more content…
The film focused on the troubles of Scarlett O’Hara, the daughter of a plantation owner, throughout the antebellum period to the Reconstruction Era. Scarlett O’Hara was infatuated with Ashley Wilkes who was engaged with his cousin Melanie Hamilton. Despite his marriage, she continued to pursue him in an attempt to gain his heart. Another man, Rhett Butler, developed an interest in her despite knowing her true nature. With the war about to begin, she agreed to a marriage with Charles Hamilton regardless of the fact that she had no feelings for him. During the war, Charles perished and she felt no remorse. Scarlett went to Atlanta to live at the Hamilton home in hopes of waiting for Ashley there. Soon the Battle of Gettysburg took place and the South suffered greatly. Luckily, Ashley survived and returned to Atlanta where Scarlett is reunited with him however, he continued to love Melanie. Soon, he left to go to war again and he convinced her to promise to take care of Melanie. Later, the Union besieged Atlanta and Melanie had to give birth without any medical assistance. Afterwards, Scarlett relied on Rhett to rescue her and take her home to Tara but he left her midway so he would be able to take part in the war. Upon her arrival at Tara, she found out that the Union had already plundered the place and her mother had …show more content…
In this film, the relationship between slaves and masters is portrayed to be pleasant however, this is largely inaccurate. The film fails to demonstrate the horrifying treatment that the majority of slaves received. In addition, there were no signs of any form of rebellion in the film which occurred frequently in the South. In the film, during the war, the slaves were shown to be pleased to go and help the South in the war but in reality, most slaves would run away or even join the Union army. Other than the largely inaccurate portrayal of the slaves, the remaining details of the film is generally accurate. The clothing used in the film as well as the details of the war are accurate however the depiction of the war is biased towards the South. It is portrayed as if the South desires to protect their land and peacefully secede but the North wishes for the

In this respect, the film remains remarkably unbiased. Not completely unbiased, however, as the film skirts around the slavery issue and almost eliminates it entirely. I believe it was necessary in maintaining, in a sense, the purity of the film by allowing a Confederate to remain completely the protagonist. The story is not about slavery, thus it was rightly not the focus of the film. I enjoyed the movie and would recommend it due to its mostly unbiased and historically accurate plot that is still enticing enough to capture an audience. More than just a love story or war film, it shows an unexpected perspective of Confederate families, who are usually…

In this quote it says that she has no brothers but that is inaccurate because she does have brothers to take up the job socially but she still gives up Hamilton for Eliza even if it wasn't for the same reasons. Lin-Manuel Miranda accurately portrayed the time period of the Revolutionary War by capturing the energy and mood of the time and staying true. He inaccurately portrayed it by condensing the time periods and made it more modern for the time period. For example, Washington says that Jefferson resigned, but…

It was that “she has had her last whipping and that, like Lori, she was going to get out of Welch” (Walls 221). The negative situation was that the bond between Jeanette and her father shatters as Rex decides to take his wife’s side. He punishes Jeanette, but at the loss of the fragile bond between them. This results in Jeanette finally breaking out of the haze her father had on her, making her ponder her life choices. That means she decides to make the decision to move out of Welch with Lori. This was positive as it means Jeanette would finally move out of the one place that gave her troubles and away from her parents. She might move onto a new stage of her life which might lead to success. Anyway, I really can't believe that he's so gullible, believing all the wonderful lies that Scarlett is telling him. However, I got so happy that he found out quickly and caught up…
