Mrs. Shelby In Uncle Tom's Cabin
Mrs. Shelby in the Uncle Tom’s Cabin can be compared to Mss Anna in the King and I. Mrs. Shelby had love, passion, and compassion for the slaves as Mss Anna. Mrs. Shelby loved her slave Eliza, Harry Eliza’s son, and Uncle Tom who lived and work for them from his childhood. Hearing Mr. Shelby is going to sell Tom a humble man and Harry Eliza’s son, Mrs. Shelby was surprised and spoke for them like Mss. Anna did when the king was uproar at Tuptim. Mrs. Shelby was against her husband’s intentions and immediately she started to remind him of the promises they had made that one day they will free the slaves and this is the same as Mss Anna was telling the king that Tuptim needs freedom. Filled with compassion and love for human dignity Mrs. Shelby told Mr. Shelby how painful it is to sell “Harry the only child” of Eliza just as Anna said to the king that it is against human dignity to bit Tuptim. Mrs. Shelby was wondering why he should sell them as Tom had been sincere and good to them throughout his life. She defended them telling her husband that he is sacrificing something that cannot be avoidable that is how exactly Mss Anna was feeling when the executive brought Tuptim …show more content…
Shelby used to convince her husband not the sell Tom and Harry were in vain for he claimed that he needed money to pay the debt if all he was speaking the truth. However, Mrs. Shelby full of mercy and kindness she went to tell Eliza that Mr. Shelby wants to sell Harry, then she advised Eliza to run away to save the boy without saying and Anna helped Tuptim and Lun Tha meet secretly. Fortunately, Eliza and Harry her son managed to run away to Canada and Mrs. Shelby was happy for she did not complain why they escaped, but she was thinking of missing someone them for she was used to them. Mrs. Shelby witnessed Tom to be sold as a slave for Tom refused to run away because he was loyal and humble whereas Mss. Anna witnessed the king sending Tuptim away without beating

    In many ways Beecher Stowe’s more moderate method was a success and her novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin was extremely popular. In the work, Stowe was able to showcase the virtues of Uncle Tom, a slave, while condemning Legree, a slave owner to suffer as a sinner.
