These heat waves have plagued urban areas by increasing death rates and spreading malaria throughout highly populated Argentinian cities. With an increase in temperature comes an increase demand for certain services such as air conditioning, and water. However, with decreased precipitation, and a generally poorer population, these services can rarely be utilized. All of this adds up to an unlivable environment for the impoverished South American people.
