In today’s society a phone, a laptop, tablet and even a book or newspaper is an arm’s length away. Becoming distracted is something today’s world is familiar with. Now a day in our free time, we don’t think, we don’t reflect on our life, our feelings, our future. We simply take our phone out and surf the internet. Introspection is a word we don’t hear of much, especially because we are losing it. The loss of introspection is important because with it we lose opinion, diversity and our goals. In many cases the loss of introspection is the loss of opinion. Bellow and Wayne both exhibit how people form opinions based on what the media has to show. Bellow states how he believes “the written word is untrustworthy and the spoken word irresponsible.” He accuses journalist and public figures of misinforming the listeners to come to right conclusion of a certain topic. Bellow says he shuns on the Sunday paper; it only informs the public of what they believe is important and in many cases, it is biased. They choose to write only about one side, the side they believe is right or the side that the public will be most entertained by.
