There is a long document that contains The Guidelines for Ethical Conduct for the Physician Assistant Profession. This document was written by Physician Assistants and is for Physician Assistants. A Physician Assistant is to use their best judgment in a given situation, but to also consider the perspectives of the patient and physician partners. The document outlines several code of ethics for a PA and describes ways in which the principles should be used in a correct way that applies to the professional life. It also includes the standards of conduct and the systems to use for disciplinary actions. The AAPA, which is the American Academy of Physician Assistants, can revoke the individual’s AAPA membership if this person had his or her license revoked as a result of a final adjudicated disciplinary action. The four main principles are autonomy (meaning self-rule), beneficence, nonmaleficence (do no harm), and justice. A Physician Assistant should act in the patient’s best interest and also behave both legally and morally. When I am a Physician Assistant in the future, if I have a problem or am unsure of what to do in a situation, I am to look at these guidelines for help. (USCCB, 2005) The life and dignity of the human person teaches us that human life is sacred and that the dignity of the human person is what should be the foundation of a moral vision for our society. The fact that human life is under attack from abortion and euthanasia is a very hard topic of discussion that I will have to face going into the healthcare field, as well as cloning and embryonic stem cell research. As a Physician Assistant, this Catholic Social Justice teaching shows how important it is to remember that every life is precious, and that humans are not just things, but to measure everything in terms of whether it threatens or enhances the life and dignity of the human. The option for the poor and vulnerable is important in the healthcare field because there are many people who do not have healthcare and cannot get the appropriate care. It is important for my moral ethics to care for those who are not faring so well. It is important that I put the needs of the poor and vulnerable first. The last teaching is the dignity of work and the rights of workers, which is one of my favorites because it explains that work is more than a way to make a living, but rather a form of continuing participation in Gods
