1984 is a science fiction book. George Orwell’s novel, 1984, uses technologies languages, and propaganda to exercise control, and power to its people. This book is about a Party based on hate, control, and suffering. This society could not exist for very long because it takes away a human’s right and freedom to choose; it takes away a family relationship and loyalty from friends, and it controls people’s mind by controlling the past and the future.
A society based on hate and suffering takes away a human’s right and freedom to choose. Winston explains the “Two Minutes Hate” saying it is, “a hideous ecstasy of fear and vindictiveness, a desire to kill, to torture, to smash faces in with a sledgehammer, seemed to flow through the whole group of people like an electric current, turning one even against one’s will into a grimacing, screaming lunatic.”(16) O’Brien believed that power is inflicting pain, and humilliating by tearing human minds to pieces, and inflicting fear. People should leave in a free society where each individual has a freedom to speak, and to decide what is best for him. …show more content…
A society based on hate and suffering takes away a family relationship and friends’ love.
Winston screams “Do it Julia! Not me! Julia! I don’t care what you do to her. Tear her face off, strip her to the bones. Not me! Julia! Not me!” (236) Winston betrays Julia’s love out of fear and suffering. According to O’Brien, a member of the Inner Party, a society will survive because it’s not founded on love. The Party society, was against love, loyalty or emotional feelings for anybody. On the contrary, this society was about family and friend’s treachery. I believe, fear and suffering takes away the trust and love for
others.
A society based on hate and suffering, controls people’s mind by controlling the past and the future. The Party Slogan ran “Who controls the past, controls the future: who controls the present, controls the past.” (32) The Party wants society to believe that Oceania was never in allowed with Eurosia, but Winston Smith knew it was a lie imposed by the Party. I believed that truth gets distorted when a government or political party forces a human being to make him believe something that is not true.
1984 is a book based on a communist system where you were told what to do and what to say. People were not allowed to speak against the Party because it was punishable by death. In our history, some countries such as: Cuba, Russia, China and Venezuela, live a communist regime, similar to the Party, where people are not allowed to speak freely or against the government. We live in a country that believes in human rights and freedom of speech. I believe people should be free to do what they want within the law. People should have the right to express their ideologies without being punished, but I also believe people should follow the laws and constitution of this country.
