What Is The Relationship Between Romeo And Juliet

The play “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare illustrates that with the love between true friends, they only want what is best for each other. When Romeo is feeling depressed, because of how Rosaline does not love him back, Romeo and Benvolio then find out about the Capulet’s feast, so Benvolio tells Romeo “At this same ancient feast of Capulet’s//Sups the fair Rosaline whom thou so loves,//With all the admired beauties of Verona://Go thither, and with unattained eye//Compare her face with some that I shall show,//And I will make thee think thy swan a crow.” (1. 2. 84-89). In other words, Benvolio is saying that Romeo’s beloved Rosaline will be at the Capulet’s feast and so will every beautiful woman in Verona. He goes on to tell Romeo to go to the feast, and without bias to compare Rosaline to the other girls that Benvolio will show him to prove that Rosaline, who now to Romeo looks as beautiful as a swan, will look as ugly as a crow once Romeo compares her to the other women.
This shows how Benvolio feels about the situation that Romeo is in. To explain, swans are beautiful, whilst crows are ugly, this shows that, Benvolio is comparing Rosaline to “a crow”, as he does not think highly of her beauty and, how she is making Romeo feel miserable by living sworn to chaste and wants to prove that to Romeo. This also reveals the type of character that Benvolio is. To explain, as Benvolio is Romeo’s close friend, he only want what is best for Romeo, because he loves him, which in this case is not having Romeo feeling
