Renaissance: * The Renaissance was a cultural movement that profoundly affected European intellectual life. * It began in Italy and spread its way across the rest of Europe. * It lasted from the end of the fourteenth century to the early sixteenth century (1375-1527). * This renaissance was significant for many reasons, one of which was the use of vernacular language. * The use of vernacular language helped people understand and rationalize ideas. * Another reason why the Renaissance was significant was due to humanists recovering classic knowledge, such as Plato, and languages. * Humanists also set cultural and educational reforms throughout Europe in this time period. * A major invention that helped move …show more content…

Jacob Burckhardt’s Thesis and Criticisms: * Jacob Burckhardt was a historian, mainly of art and culture. * He viewed the renaissance as a split between the medieval to the new, modernized era. * Some major changes that he used to support his thoughts were the revival of ancient learning, new secular values, and new scientific values which began to question traditional religious beliefs. * Most scholars agree that the Renaissance was a time of transition from medieval world to modern world.
