Legislation is a law that has been put in place by the governing body in order to regulate or restrict. There are a range of legislations put in place to help promote diversity, rights and equality within society and in organisations. Such as the following:
Data Protection Act, 1998
The information heel in a health and social care sector can ruin lives of individuals so it is important that all data is confidential information is protected. All organisations holding personal data has to abide by this act. This act also helps the health care professionals by guiding them on how to keep information private and what type of information is allowed to be passed on to other professionals so that the service users’ needs can be met and their health is not at risk. This act helps to protect men and women against discrimination or harassment that may take place due to the grounds of gender that may take place in work, education, advertising etc.

It is important that all children have the right to not be discriminated against due to their age, gender or race. This act helps to improve children’s lives in the UK; it covers all health and social care services for children to access. Disability Discrimination Act, 2005
The disability discrimination act helps to protect civil rights and discrimination against people with disabilities in employment and when using a particular service so that they have the same opportunities as other individuals in work or education. In addition, it also assists organisations and health care services to make reasonable adjustments to ensure full accessibility for individuals with disabilities because it is compulsory that they treated fairly wherever they go in society
Equality Act, 2010
The equality act is the most important quality legislation because it helps to protect the rights of individuals and create equal opportunities for all. The act supports people from unfair discrimination in the workplace. In addition it also helps to make sure that by law everyone is treated with dignity and respect and endorsees a fair and equal society; especially in health and social care sectors and other organisations.
