They choose their friends by who was kind to them. It doesn't matter what your skin color was if you were playing in a sandbox together having fun. But adults, they don't have a sandbox to all play in and get along they only see blacks as workers who do whatever you tell them to do. And when that's your only image of someone it's kinda harder not to see them as a lower class than you.
Atticus was one of the rare few that saw blacks as equals. he once said you'll never truly understand someone until you consider things from his point of view until you crawl into his skin and walk around in it. (pg 30) to me this shows that Atticus sees people just as kids do. This is basically what my poem is talking about, The treasure lies within. Why judge people by their appearances. The color of your skin is just a color.
In conclusion, in To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee teaches readers many lessons about life including racism, bravery, and a loss of innocence. Lee wrote this novel to teach our nation that racism was overwhelming and we needed to change. This book has had many readers and still has many to come, its importance is just as much today as it was the day it was
