What Is a Window 8 and How Successful Do You Think It Will Be?
What is a window 8 and how successful do you think it will be?
In this assignment I will be focusing on the major differences between the two OS; windows 7 and windows 8. I will also be identifying, based on my own views how successful windows 8 will be.
Windows 8 is the latest version of Microsoft operating system. For some years now we've had windows 7 which was and still is a fantastic operating system. Many years have passed by and it’s only now Microsoft have finally decided to release their new Operating system (OS) called windows 8. Microsoft created a preview which received a lot of bad reviews which unfortunately outweighed the good reviews.
The release of Windows 8 has built up a lot of excitement amongst Microsoft enthusiasts and devotees. This is because Microsoft introduced new features into their new OS, for example Metro design, Windows Store and fast boot etc. Microsoft extended their popularity amongst mac and linux users as these features are also familiar to them.
In fact, Windows 8 was deemed remarkable not only for its new features, but for the removal of some old features which were viewed to be highly insignificant and irrelevant to the majority of Microsoft enthusiasts and users. Example being, applications such as ‘media centre’ which did not generate much popularity amongst most users was one of the few applications to be removed. Although this app has been removed it can still be purchased at the Microsoft store for those who did find it beneficial.
Remarkable as windows 8 may seem some, I will maintained an un- biased opinion until I compare the two operating systems. I will then identify whether or not my view will differ from the general population that are in favour of the new OS.

1. Start Button
The start button which first appeared in Windows 95 which sustained its significance throughout each new Windows version has now been removed. This has been replaced with a small window called a ‘hot spot’ in the bottom-left

I was able to make the following implications in regards to Huffman Trucking 's choice of operating systems: When it comes to a company like Huffman Trucking that has offices and plants in New Jersey, California, Missouri and Ohio, obviously it is in their best interest to utilize a Operating System that is well known and doesn 't require too much retraining though out their locations. Microsoft Windows is one of the most popular and user friendly operating systems this makes it the perfect choice in operating systems to keep familiarity throughout the company and not cause un due confusion to new or relocated employees. It would be wise to assume that many of these employees are familiar with windows based programs and operating systems already from their personal computer systems outside of the work place. This should create a level of comfort and…

Beginning with Windows 7 Starter version, the key aspects are that it only comes in a 32-bit version with a maximum RAM amount of 2 gigabytes. The other key aspects are that it lacks the use of aero enhancements and does not have the ability to run three programs at the same time. Also its maximum number of CPU’s that it can have is one. The next version of Windows 7 is the Home Basic version. This version is somewhat like the starter version in some key aspects. Home Basic does not have aero enhancements, live thumbnail previews and internet connection sharing. Some other key aspects are that it comes in, 32-bit and 64-bit versions as well as 4 and 8 gigabytes respectively between the 32 and 64 bit versions.…

Although extremely popular, easy to use and install Windows Server 2008 seems like a whole different animal than Linux. I found over 600 “distributions” of Linux some that are not all active and approximately 20 are very popular and in high use. There are no versions that are “Standard”, “Ultimate, or” Enterprise “ like. Windows Server 2008 has 7 versions from very easy for a single user and very complex for larger enterprise like users. Windows makes it simple for you to chose what you need and install it. With Linux there are many versions along with so many things that you can do to them yourself to make it your own.…

Reviewing old consumer comments about the pervious launch will give Microsoft an idea on how to launch Window 7. The key to gaining back consumer trust is to value their opinion and try to meet their demands. Harry McCracken wrote an article about the reviews on Window Vista and according to McCracken (2009) “Negative reaction to Vista among consumers and businesses ended up preventing it from ever truly superseding Window XP in the way it the was supposed to do-but were the reviews among the first signs that something was amiss” (p.2). This information will allow Microsoft to address most of the issues that lead to the negative reactions of their consumers. Consumer’s main focus was on the performance and…

Microsoft’s emergence as a software superpower was due to the unfolding of a unique set of circumstance and a combination of luck and skill. Since the early ‘80s, Microsoft’s has a good share of the market of personal computers operating systems but the rise of this company has been widely caused by an IBM’s wrong evaluation. In those years IBM was the world’s largest computer producer, but its managers decided to not invest money into development of personal computer technology because they thought that this sector would never been profitable, but only a niche market. When IBM’s managers realized that the market was growing very fast and the company was in danger to lose its leadership, they decided to base their personal computer on Intel microprocessor and Gary Kildall’s operating system, named CP/M, instead of developing their own. Kildall decided to not sign with IBM and their choice fell back on Bill Gates that bought an operating system based on CP/M and made it compatible with IBM’s machines, creating Microsoft DOS. Every IBM’s PC used this program, so MS DOS had a huge installed base, and the other companies who wanted to stay in the market could only develop a compatible software, also a lot of applications and complementary goods were developed for this platform and it generated a “virtuous circle” that made Microsoft the world’s fastest-growing software company. To be more functional for users and to fight against Apple, Microsoft decided to create a new graphical interface, named Windows and with that reached the leadership on personal computer operating system market and a large market share in many other software market such as word processor and presentation programs, influencing software and hardware industries thank also to its capabilities of encouraging…
