Stages of Critical Thinking
Stages of Critical Thinking
Complete the matrix by identifying the six stages of critical thinking, describing how to move from each stage to the next, and listing obstacles you may face as you move to the next stage of critical thinking.
Stages of critical thinking | How to move to the next stage | Obstacles to moving to the next stage | EXAMPLE:The Unreflective Thinker | Examine my thinking to identify problems that affect my thinking. | Deceiving myself about the effectiveness of my thinking | The Challenged Thinker | Achieving insight into the truth that whatever intellectual skills I have they are inconsistently applied across the areas of my life. | Limiting myself about the awareness of the important part of thinking in my life and limiting thinking of the basic problems that come from poor thinking. | The Beginning Thinker | Recognizing the importance of developing as a thinker. Seeking ways to develop as a thinker and to making an intellectual obligation to that end. | Not recognizing that I have basic problems in my thinking and not making an attempt to better understand how I can take charge of and improve my thinking. | The Practicing Thinker | Having the intellectual humbleness necessary to realize that thinking in all the areas of my life must be subject to test, as I improve my logical thinking. | Lacking insight into deeper levels of thought, and thus into deeper levels of the problems embedded in thinking. | The Advanced Thinker | Possessing depth of understanding not only of the need for regular practice in thinking, but also having insight into deep levels of problems in thought. | Refusing to develop power of understanding not only of the need for areas of practice in my thinking, but also approaching consistent acknowledgment of selfishness
