2. Tactics vs. strategy: Reflect on the difference/s between tactics and strategy. Provide an example from your own personal or professional experience. 1 page max.
Many people confuse the notion of strategy with that of tactics. A strategy is a long-term planned action to achieve a big goal, whereas a tactic is a smaller, short-term scheme for a specific action. Strategy is often complex and multi-layered. A strategy allows you to set priorities and focus your resources. Tactics need to be evaluated and adjusted constantly based on experience.
Strategy and Tactics must work in tandem. Random tactics without a strategy leads to short term actions with unpredictable long-term results. In a strategy without tactics we have an ambitious goal but not the action to meet it.
An example from my personal experience is a board game called “Risk”. It is played on a board depicting a political map of the Earth, divided into forty-two territories, which are grouped into six continents. The ultimate goal of the game is «world domination» or to occupy every territory on the board and in doing so, all other players must be eliminated.
