What techniques did Mr. Matthews use to foster language development in his students? What other recommendations would you suggest to Mr. Matthews?
He included the students to be active in the discussion on the historical backgrounds even though the students didn’t know it. He created booklets that have scripts, so the student can participate or be involved in the skits. Instead of reading regularly, Mr. Matthew made some modification to the reading, and the students seem to enjoy it. At the end, he even gave them series of open ending questions to check for the students understanding and let them keep it for their own references.
I would suggest he has students bring in some questions that they have while reading. Divide students into smaller groups to talk about what they have read while he observes and helps answer question that student might have. Later he can bring the groups together as a whole to share their ideas, interests, and thoughts.

The more students with language impairments have experiences with speaking, they will show improvement in their speeches. They will also build more confidence in themselves and become a better speakers. Another thing Mr. Matthews could do it gives basic and clear instructions or explain the instructions in a way that would help students with language impairments to understand the assignment in class. The more clear Mr. Matthews is on the assignment, the easier it will make for students who are confused or lost in the class. Also, the more students work on the assigning reading and terminology at home and using them in sentences, then it will help them to have a better understanding and gaining new vocabulary
