World organizations were created at this time. One organization that was for communism was the Warsaw Pact, the Warsaw Pact acted like one big military. Another organization that was for democracy was NATO. NATO was like an alliance, if one country got attacked the other countries in the alliance would help the country that got attacked. After WW2 Korea was divided at the 38th parallel and was later governed by the United Nations, the United Nations tried to create a plan to reunite them. The North Koreans wanted communism, and the South wanted a democracy. Fighting began in June, 1950 when Soviet-made tanks from North Korea rolled across the border of South Korea. President Truman then asked the United Nations to stop the war from getting bigger and the United Nations was able to push the North Koreans back. Then the Chinese sent in their troops to help the North Koreans. The war went on for 3 years, more than 54,000 Americans were killed and 103,000 wounded.
