We live in a neighborhood of very small lots that puts us all very close..I spent 2 years in Vietnam ..the base where I was stationed had guard Dogs that protected our perimeter with there handlers.
Well 24/7 they barked and barked at a lot of movement in the jungle, I asked one of the guards if they could stop them from barking, he said he could not and would not! My reply was if they bark at everything how could you tell VC from a bird or animal? The guard told me they have a different sound, they can smell the VC.
I Was OK with that to be safe I will live with the bark ! One night I will never forget early morning we were attacked with rockets how many not sure ..two of my friends were running for a bunker and took a direct hit I went to help only body parts I could find...There were some dogs that roamed our base some guys would feed them with scraps from the chow hall!
I'm looking around In shock I see this dog running with an arm in his mouth ...I think your not going to feast on my friends arm!.. I killed the dog.... An Airman standing next to me said “ I guess if they get hungry enough they will eat you”
So after that I hear a barking dog I have to relive that night! That is one of many triggers for my PTSD.. I'm told by my readjustment counselor at the Vet Center! Live in the past? My past is so etched in my brain it never goes away!
Why do I tell this story? If I did not how would you know? My counselor tells me we must talk of our service ...helps in relief...What ever........
Back to where we live I have neighbors with two dogs that like to bark.. when we First moved in, most times barking was all day for a long time, I did not complain, then I had to more than once ..It is now much better and I thank the owners for helping with that! Much better! Much better! Thank you.
Now through the grape vine I'm told I'm know as the bad guy for asking for some respect and peace! and that I have taken away the fun of owner
