He didn't want them to go to a boy's home so he took the responsibility of getting a job and taking care of them. Darry was always serious and he had a weird way of showing Ponyboy he loved him but he did love him. Even though he didn't say it or express it he did love him and I knew this because he always told Ponyboy to stay out of trouble and to never walk home alone so he wouldn't get sent to a home.
