The novel of the Lord of the Flies by William Golding takes place on a island around the pacific all alone. The boys are stranded on a deserted island with no adults. The island is tropical jungle and beaches, and a mountain. Throughout the book, the setting is in different parts of the island like on the beach and on the top of the hill where they keep the fire at. The school boys did not know where the plane went so they thought it went back out to sea. They do not like the island because the thought of something beginning out there like a monster scares some of them. They chose the leader by votes who ever got the most amount of votes was their leader They wanted rules and a good leader they would make the right choice on what to do. However, Jack made himself leader by bribing the boys with meat. Jack relates most to Hobbes philosophy because of ruthless and cruel leadership.
Jack exemplifies all the negative human characteristics discussed by Thomas Hobbes. Jack make fun of the fat kid telling him what to do. “You’re talking too much,” said Jack Merridew. “Shut up, Fatty” (Golding 20). When they were given freedom to whatever they wanted the island got burned down. This is Hobbes because he said if they were given freedom they would destroy themselves. When the boys killed that last pig it was the last female on the island and her offsprings would die because they would have no food from the mom to survive. Jack was the one who destroyed the island because he sent people out to kill the pigs and make fires and let them burn the island down. Jack doesn't care what happens to the island when it burned down. People are usually bad because when people were given freedom bad stuff
