Who Is To Blame For Mack's Downfall

Mack is to blame for Scotty’s accident. Although it was Maureen’s suggestion and certainly brought the idea to mind, Mack, in the end, gave into peer pressure. Eventually, he followed through with it. Mack is unable to settle from the guilt. Being conscious and knowing what he’s done to someone else is far too much for him. He ruined someone else’s dreams with his egocentric behavior, and came to the realization that getting what you hoped for isn’t so great when it is not rewarded unequivocally. After all, Mack only became the captain because Scotty was injured. Luckily, he only suffered injuries. Stairs are dangerous. Had he fallen wrong, it could have resulted in death. As soon as Maureen suggested such a repulsing idea, Mack should have
realized her true colors. Someone who would let greed overcome them for their own desires is no person to be with. Although it was not stated in the passage, it can be assumed the couple broke up under one occasion. Both were grappling the guilt, whilst the regret became too large of a burden to bear. This would cause the two to isolate and realize what harm they’ve done. Their thoughts of one another would undergo drastic changes that would result in loss of feelings, as they would become strangers to one another. Some of the choices made in life will stay with a person. While they may be good, they can also be bad. In such a case as this, a lesson was learned about greed, and how it can be harmful to others. Wanting too much of anything could be a crime. Captain of the baseball team certainly was not all it is cracked up to be for Mack.
