The Capulets and the Montagues have a feud which caused Romeo and Juliet not to be able to tell their family about their marriage. Since they had to keep that a secret they both had to make sacrifices to hide their marriage. Those sacrifices lead them to both make bad decisions. …show more content…
For example Juliet will not marry like her parents want her to because she is married to Romeo. She still doesn’t tell her parents that, but gets shamed by both of her parents. “Noby Saint Peter’s Church and Peter too,w, He shall not make me there a joyful bride.I wonder at this haste, that I must wedEre he, that should be husband, comes to woo.I pray you, tell my lord and father, madam,I will not marry yet. And when I do, I swear It shall be Romeo, whom you know I hate, Rather than Paris. These are news indeed!” Juliet says that she will not marry which is a huge risk and still didn’t tell her parents about the marriage. She also said that she would rather marry Romeo than Paris.
Even with the family’s feud Romeo and Juliet could have still avoided their deaths by thinking through and thinking about their actions. There are many scenes where if Romeo and Juliet though thoroughly about what they were going to do, they both wouldn’t have ended up dead. If Romeo and Juliet would have thought more about getting married, they probably wouldn’t have gotten married and all of this wouldn’t have ever happened. Also if Juliet though even more about what she was going to do at the end of the story, she would not have ended up dead. “ Give me, give me! O, tell not me of fear.” Juliet was telling the friar to give her the poison that would make her look like she was dead. When she did this she didn’t think about it and wasn’t worried about the problems that that it might cause.
The friar’s actions could have prevented Romeo and Juliet’s death.
If he didn’t marry Juliet none of the secrets would have happened. Since he allowed it and was the one who married them it caused them to have to be secretive about their marriage. If the friar didn’t allow or marry them or old Romeo and Juliet to talk to their fathers about this, their deaths could have been avoided. The friar also was the one who had the plan of Juliet drinking the poison and telling Romeo about their plan to run off together. The friar failed to give the letter to Romeo causing both Romeo and Juliet to kill themselves. If the friar got the message to Romeo in time both of them wouldn’t have ended up dead. “Tomorrow night look that thou lie alone; Let not thy nurse lie with thee in thy chamber. Take thou this vial, being then in bed, And this distilling liquor drink thou off;” This is what the friar said to Juliet and he made the plan up and in the end it failed. The plan caused both Romeo and Juliet to misunderstand what was going on. That misunderstanding lead to both of their
deaths.
In conclusion, I disagree with the statement about Romeo and Juliet’s deaths were unavoidable. In the whole play there were many actions that could have been avoided. If those actions were avoided then Romeo and Juliet would have lived. The feud between the families, Romeo and Juliet’s thoughts, and the friar’s actions could have stopped their “unavoidable” deaths. “A pair of star-crossed lovers take their life, Whose misadventured piteous overthrows.” This was part of prolog and it was in the very beginning of the story. It says they were star crossed lovers, but I doesn’t say the they had unavoidable deaths. These are the reasons that I disagree the statement.
